Yes, but just imagine, there are people out there who have never owned a real mini!!!! That's the true loss.
No, it really isn't! I've never had one and never wanted one after I went in a mate's 1965 Turquoise rot-box in 1976 and felt the passenger floor-pan flapping in the wind once he got it up to 60 mph! F*cking horrible contraption! Made my MKII Cortina rust-bucket feel relatively well-built!

Anyway to return to the thread topic I never get upset when I sell a car so long as I am more excited by the next one!

Sold a P6 Rover 3500S in the early 1980s but didn't care because I was buying a MKII RS2000. Sold that in 1984 and didn't care because I was getting a Capri 2.8 Injection!

Sold that for the deposit on my first house, which made up for the misery of a 2 litre Vauxhall Sportshatch with a leaky sunroof! Anyway a pay rise or two later and I got another 2.8i Capri!

More recently I bought a pre-registered 123d in 2008 and sold it after 6 and a half years and 80K miles in 2014 - thought I might miss that one as it was the nearest to a new car I had ever owned, but the Z4 Coupe was so much more fun I haven't missed it at all!

Only now do I wish I had kept the RS2000 or a Capri Injection when I see what they seem to sell for, but by now they would have needed a total rebuild so probably no profit potential in them anyway! And by current standards they would seem pretty gutless I expect!

My only problem now is working out what I would actually want as I don't want a 4-pot turbo, flappy-paddles, electric handbrake or similar wallet-raping features once out of warranty - my emotional attachment seems pretty low! laugh

Sort of, yeah.

ST170 ....
I'd hate to see someone else driving it. I love the thing!
Bloody hell someone else as daft as me. hehe
TheFinners said:
Judging by how much I've sunk into mine over the last year financially I think I am in the same boat! They really do not have student friendly running costs but I refuse to sell it as I enjoy driving the thing so much. For all their flaws the ST170's really are good all rounders.
We are all idiots!

But how good are they at long fairly high speed journeys. They bloody eat up miles and seem to love sitting at a fairly daft cruising speed just below 4k rpm.
ST170's FTW!hehe

Just to add a bit of balance, mine hasn't cost me a penny bar servicing, tyres and fuel over the past 3 1/2 years. It's the most reliable car I've ever owned!

I have a kit car in the garage and have been known to take the focus in preference for a blat into Wales. Now that's stupid!laugh

Next is probably the SVR. Told the dealer I wanted one on first sight of the spy shots, had it 'bespoked' by SVO,
What bespoke elements of the car did you have? I never tire of seeing your car parked outside what I assume is your workplace in Nottingham.

I miss my old FTO. I know they seem to get a bit of stick on here and elsewhere for being slow etc but mine was provavly one of the best examples in the country when i got it. Manual, sunroof, facelift, amongst the last few hundred produced and it sounded utterly brilliant!

Was my first fun/sporty/quick car and i went on many fun drives on lovely roads with it. It got me into PH and the car enthusiast scene in general and I was completely gutted when i had to sell it for pennies because it was a bit rusty and i couldn't really justify the repair costs anymore frown

I'm not a big girl like some posters on here so i didnt cry :P But i do look longingly at every non-barried example i see and constantly look at prices even though I actually need an estate with tow-bar right now!

I'm emotionally attached to my car. I'd always wanted one ever since I first saw one, when I found mine when it was for sale I knew immediately it was the one, took the very next bit of free time I had to go look it over and eventually exchange money for it. Since then it's had the rough edges polished up and often I look back at it when it's parked up. Lovely car, can't see myself selling it.

Not recently though I am quit enamoured with my aging Merc, certinaly more so than the Nissan 350Z.

I tend to get separation anxiety with cars ten years after I sold them but that is just normal human aging.

Pretty attached to mine, can't see myself selling it for a few years. Does everything I want, including the desire to tinker as it gets gradually upgraded.

Been all over Europe and now we live somewhere sunny where I can enjoy the mountain drives and coastal roof down experience fully biggrin

Great car history. I expect it's much easier to get attached to a car when you have seen it being built and had the whole experience.

My Prodrive Impreza RB5, I've owned it for a long time and in that time its had everything upgraded except for the exterior which is completely standard. It's had its engine worked over and now makes 355bhp which I feel makes it a lot more fun to drive. It always felt slightly underwhelming with 255bhp.

It's still such a raw, involving drive and in my mind looks great! I also feel its been through a lot of experiences with me.

Depends on the car, the 306, Fiesta ZS and the S-type were all just cars and I wasn't sad to see them go. My first car was a 205 and I still remember fondly the amount of fun I had with my friends in that, the ZT was also good when it worked and I still look at them before sensible head kicks in. My Skyline though is on another level, it's already got under my skin and when someone damaged it I was apocalyptic with rage and from time-to-time I want to find them and begin a long line of terrible actions against them.

I have my 159 for sale at the moment. Had it also as a daily for 5 years. I got really sad when someone phoned up to buy it. It fell through as he found a 3.2 instead. It's gotta go though as the wife to be decided we need to buy a house. Our new car (Passat R36) Is so much more of a car. But the Alfa has just felt like a mate. Sure it's let me down but we got through it.

Thanks smile - I bought it for 6 months and here I am still with it many years later!

In the same boat, nearly sold my old 911 a few months ago.

I was thinking was it the right thing or not?

What could replace it? What would fill the hole?

I am still thinking about it now.

How would I feel?

I really regret selling my Impreza Type-R. I didn't realise how much I liked it until it was gone. I'm very attached to my Eunos. My Boxster I appreciate for it's talents, but I don't love it, yet.

I'm quite attached to my current Leon, both kids have been born since we got it, spent thier first months being ferried around in it, never machine washed it, serviced on the button, low mileage thought id keep it till it broke... then.. the cupra lease deal came along and its now covered in sap, bird poo and the like biggrin

Always! I was emotionally attached to my dad's cars as a kid, probably because we worked on them together. I am similar with all my cars, no matter whether a snotter or something a bit more exciting. I tend to keep them a long time and do lots of miles with them.

It's daft really. I remember part exing my XR3i cab for an 18 month old Grif, and despite loving the difference, was feeling really guilty on the way home. Yes, I am a tt.

I love my Rav and Vette equally for different reasons and will be sad to see either go.

I loved my old MK3 Scirocco. Every time i see another on the road i just miss it. Such a good looking car IMO. It was a lovely colour and spec too.

I was also really happy with the mods i did to it and made it my own. The only problem with it was it was only the boggo 1.4 TSI 122 bhp model so it really wasn't very quick and i had a bit of an accident in it and it never felt the same to drive after that. Was sad to see it changed back to standard aswell before i got rid.

Seeing the prices of used 2.0 TSI models really makes me want another in the future. But i think i'd want something different and i'd only end up doing the same things to it that i did to my previous one.

It was a car that i always wanted and i was ecstatic when i realised i could afford one. Sadly, the Audi I've got now is the complete opposite. I try and convince myself that i like it but the truth is i really don't. I'm just not bothered about it at all. I fancy changing a few subtle things on it but it seems like a complete waste of money in the grand scheme of things frown
