It's sad that you are so worried about what other people think of you. You need to work on your low self esteem.

Not a fantastic car but a worthy bit of transport for the cash. You could do far worse.

It's not a performance car by any stretch. A mate of mine used to run one, which only cost him a couple of grand. Despite being a V6 model, it wasn't quick. The handling was reasonable though. Many late nights we raced home from work on empty B roads, the chase car being whoever was out of the locker room first. I doubt he'd deny that I didn't have much trouble gaining ground in my 106 Rallye though he was considerably more comfortable.

Thank you kmack for so eloquently validating my "badge snobbery" comment.

If he really has a McLaren 12C in his garage I would venture he isn't Hyundai's target demographic anyway.
At least it will be a 1000 times more reliable than a McLaren.

Think a few people on here miss the point of Shed of the Week.

Its not fast, it is FWD, it isn't the best handling car, but hey, its not a Ferrari or a £5K hot hatch. What it is, is a £675 car that looks rather nice, probably wont be unreliable and isn't rusty or particularly old. As a bonus it comes with a V6. For the money, I would say it ticks most of the shed boxes rather well....

Agreed!

I always look at Shed as a worst case scenario. If you were to fall on hard times but needed a cheap reliable run around you can't go wrong.

I don't think you can call any Hyundai "stylish".

What on earth is going on with those gear ratios? Third gear is rather long and there seems barely any point in 6th
Looks like they geared it like a Caterham to get the fastest possible 0-60, then realized they needed a tall top gear, so had to stretch 4th and 5th a bit. Must be annoying to drive!

Still manages the ton in 20 seconds......same as a recent 320d with 180bhp .......not too shabby for 165bhp in a car of that weight

Quite honestly I'd prefer you to take the bus as well.

I'd sooner have a V6 Siii Coupe, they are really rare here in England.

Nearly bought one of these a while back. Stories of big-end failures being inevitable with the V6 put me off.

Shame really, great looking car inside and out imo.

However 160 BHP from a 2.7 V6 is pathetic.

My wife ran a new one of these for a couple of years when doing some work for Hyundai, same model as Shed, but in black. I always thought it was a good car, it was certainly quicker and sounded better than the E46 320i I had at the time and an absolute steal at this price.
Its clearly not in the same league as the current crop of performance hatches (or the best of its contemporaries for that matter), but as someone has pointed out, the performance is better than it first appears.

I loved my 55 plate blue 1.6 Coupe. I needed something slow as my licence wasn’t exactly clean and needed to keep my nose clean for a year. Ended up keeping the car for almost 4 years. Paint polished up surprisingly well for a 'Hyundai' and with some lowering and nice deep dish alloys had many people ask what it actually was. Was badgless. Had more people stop and take photos than I currently do in my current 350Z.

It had water ingress which made the indicators stick on and other than that not one fault.
I put some Toyo's on 8.5jj alloys and the handling wasn’t bad at all.

I had the 3.5 body shape which IMHO was the best looking one. And had not problems with rust at all.

Surprising. I'd never have imagined anyone would stop and take a photo of either of those cars, unless you modified them extraordinarily well or embarrassingly badly.

£675. One owner, FSH, good spec,....you know when something seems too good to be true? I reckon you could double the price and still sell it if its as described. So why only ask the low price. Whats the catch?

Thanks again, I've found your magazine scan uploads interesting.

Seems there are some better photos available for shed now:

I guess for a 2.7 litre they can be seen as slow but at only 165bhp it's not going to be too stressed and can jump the lights with a Williams Clio or GT86 to 100mph which considering its weight isn't so bad. Curiously chosen gear ratios as well, it needs 4th gear to reach 60mph so that can't help the 7.3 second time. £675 is cheap enough as well.

Just a note on the gear ratios, don't pay attention to that stupid chart since it is clearly wrong and insane. Looking at the in-gear acceleration times, you can get to 80 in third which is in line with the gearing on most cars.

Check the prices of second hand coupes, they simply aren't worth much even in good condition.

I would rather have one than walk. Good budget sports car with reliability. Forget the badge. Thinks of the savings.
