Er, no, its a Housetrained Lambo.

The only thing s an R8 has in common with a TT is the manufacturer and some family styling cues, the TT, fine car in its own right is a Golf derived FWD coupe, the R8 is an aluminium spaceframed mid engined supercar.

A TTRS is the equal, performance wise of a V8 TT, maybe even quicker but the R8 is a very special car, despite its parent company mainly selling diesel hatches and saloons.

I think serial supercar owners can probably turn their nose up a bit at the relatively humble (int he realsm of supercars) TT, i.e. if you have a 675, 458 etc etc but for the owners of normal tackle it is still so much better than most stuff out there.

I quite like its relatively Low Key looks, supercars by and large are a bit too much of a statement for me, you could use an R8 everyday, a bit like slightly shoutier 911.

Very kind offer.

I'm an M nut. I have a CSL, CS, E36 and GTS!

All great cars compared to the new batch. Especially the GTS - absolutely stunning drivers' car.

I should add, that if you're in or around London, I reciprocate your offer.

I'll never be able to afford one, but if, by some chance, I won one, I'd sell it on without adding to the delivery miles.
I'd buy something I like as a keeper.
They just don't do it for me.

With respect. That is utter rubbish.

Last time I checked the TT was not mid engined and did not have 600+ bhp.

You clearly have never been near one.

Or are you one of these people who only bothers about how it looks? rolleyes

Well if you have driven that many miles then you should be able to tell the difference between a car with a specially designed mid engine chassis and a V10 with 600 + bhp, and a front engined car based on a Golf platform with half that power. smile

Or you can just say it is a "glorified TT". I guess it could be a glorified TT, apart from the chassis, the engine, the transmission, every body panel, and, well, everything. I think they may have the same electric window switch though... rolleyes

I just changed my 8 month old 991 GTS for a late reg Gallardo for exactly this reason.

The GTS was astonishingly good at all it was targeted to do. Incredibly well built. Very fast and unfortunately soulless!

A teutonic masterpiece no doubt but it failed to ignite the basic passion that my weekend toys must.

The Gallardo by comparison is raw, almost agricultural and definitely brutal. A total occasion on every drive and better for its failings than the Porsche ever would be for its perfection!

The price of progress perhaps. Sometimes the old adage of 'less is more' has never been more true!
Very well put, I agree entirely.

I have driven both an R8 , Porsche 911 at length in two charity driving days around Croft

Ended up buying a 911 , sold the 911 and have just bought a Vantage .

Never gave the R8 a moments thought when it came to spending my own wedge.

No doubt a great car but there is no way I could spend £130k on an Audi.

That's serious dosh and supercar money. An Audi no matter how good is not "Super".

My £130k would go on a 12c spider if you can find one

R8. Sounds like my first impressions of Monaco - dehumanised, antiseptic, sterile and vastly over-priced.
You see these sorts of things all over the Cote d'Azure. City of Nice is thronging with these things, but it's extremenly odd that you see very, very rich people in these status symbols, but no multicultural elements of significance. Unless you count cars with Kingdom of Saudi Arabia plates.
Audi R8 & Monte Carlo nah? Give me Marseille and a far less ostentatious car and authentic closeness to your surroundings.
I'd go for a Fiat Dino Spyder driving along one of the coast roads along the Med, with the wind in my hair and the joy of changing gear all on my own. Sensory intoxication not aneasthetic experiences like these daft supercars.
Still, the R8 is very beautiful and sounds amazing. A VAG Ducatti would be far more involving

Had R8, 911 turbo, Aston V8, RS6, M3 etc

..and they are all 'too good'.

Caterham Sevens will find out how good a driver you are.

smile

Still - I LOVED the R8. Real fun to drive - went for manual (of course) and the lighter V8 over the faster, heavier V10.

"So why does it leave me so cold?"

Because it lacks a soul.

I drove a R8 back to back with Huracan and a 458 a few months ago. R8 just felt flat. Very competent but no sense of presence or theatre. And I feel that is the R8's issue. It is a very competent motor car but in certain company it's just a bit too introvert.

Toyota with the GT86, and the McLaren 570s in particular (in this price range) show that the blinkered search for ever better lap times doesn't always produce a better road car. The 570s is deliberately stepped back in the grip department to make it more of a 'drivers' car compered to the more clinical 650 series.

Audi can make the R8 V10 as a 'halo' car but look to make a V10 'Clubsport' or V10 'R' to compliment the top-spec version. A little less rubber, a little less weight, and fewer electronic options to introduce a bit of the character which has been totally engineered out.

Get back to a 'car & driver' relationship instead of the 'car & computer & driver' relationship!

I think Audi made a mistake in pushing up market with this car. The original V8 Audi was successful largely because it offered a mid engine super-car package for base 911 Carrera prices. This new V10 only model is now competing against 911 turbos and 570S McLarens and it doesn't really have the "wow" factor against these....

Audi should leave the V10 to Lambo and have the R8 with a V8. Also it needs to lose a few pounds. I think the as tested weight is 1730KG according to my Autocar Road test.

The Lambo of a generation ago, I'm thinking 'Super trofeo Stradale' etc weighed in at circa 1340 kg. That's 400 kgs less than the portly R8!!
