The cab of the Griff seems very hot these days, lots of hot air around the drivers legs etc.

I've never had much faith in the heating system, do they stick open or are there other ways warm air can enter.

Where is the water flow valve ? feels like its electronic based upon the switch gear.

going away in it next week to Yorkshire so need to cool it down, cos when it rains i'll need the roof up !

On the Chimaera there is a plastic valve in the passenger foot well (Volkswagen part) that gets stuck and doesn't quite close leaving the heater constantly open might be worth a look

Yup, it's just under the glovebox, if you follow the pipework you'll find it. If you can hear it rotating but you're just getting warm air the seals in the valve have failed. Take it to GSF, IIRC it's a MKII Golf part, circa £14.

You have to modify it a little with a hacksaw but you can see what's needed when you have it out. Top tip, paint a reference mark so you can easily register it in the fully closed position when you refit it.

i'll look at the vents, I think one is broken or stuck open, and i'll check the valve.

for my trip - I guess I can rotate it shut manually and leave it like that for a few days ?

Doubtful, the seals are on the inside. If the valve is rotating (you can see it if you look under the glovebox) correctly hot water is getting past.

Have a quick look on this post..might help explain it. The valve might just be misaligned, if you are getting the 'whirring' noise when you turn the dial. Or the VW valve has broken. It should work fine though.

having given this a bit more thought, I realised I had the wing cover off to expose the clutch master, and didn't refit it as I wanted to keep an eye on the level.

Is it likely/possible, hot air is entering there into the cabin - is there a way through ?

If it coincides it's a possibility, the acid test is how warm the air is coming out of the vents and does it alter when you turn the dial? It takes a while to cool down if you do it from hot. I'd start up with it set cold, let her come up to temp and see if the air is warm or cool then open the valve.

Yes you will get hot air from the engine bay coming into the footwell if the clutch cover is off (water too if it is wet). The area under the clutch cover is the back of the pedal box and there are numerous routes through there into the footwell

What he said. I've done that before and it got ballistically hot in the cabin. Easy fix though smile
