Maybe expect 'artificial steering feel' as an option soon - like the 'artificial engine noise' is already here? or just buy a proper car from the 90s ;0
I've played around with an EPAS system setup as a force feedback steering wheel. It absolutely pissed all over any force feedback gaming wheel and wasn't far off the feel quality of an aircraft simulator force feedback joystick costing a lot more.

I suspect they intentionally degrade the feedback and feel because that is what most drivers actually want. "There's something wrong with the steering, I can feel every bump in the road..."

Back in the day steering was heavy and I was light, sadly that has swapped.
Maybe the two things are correlated?

To be fair; unassisted Austin Maxi steering had no feel and weighed in like an 80's shot putters training regime.
Worst of all worlds? At least light and no feel is easy?...

I actually spoke to an Audi engineer about just this problem (uncommunicative ePAS) earlier this year and he told me they were getting better with the technology and that no, we shouldn't expect that all cars from here on out have lifeless steering.

Of course, there was no timeline attached!
