Seat Ibiza FR 1.2 TSI engine 62 plate and 31k, it has got a really loud rattling noise coming from the engine. Worse when idling or at low revs. Doesn't sound good at all. Has anyone had similar issues or any idea what is causing it?

The 2.0l TSI engine in my VRS is chain driven and is known for having tensioners made of cheese. I think the 1.2 TSI suffers the same issue, could be that.

Might be better posting in the Seat/VW/Skoda section.

Lets be honest. If you have a minor problem with a car, perhaps a grinding noise when turning the wheel at low speed or a bongbongbong noise from a strut mount, you can wait until you get internet feedback. With a problem with the engine, you probably want to take that to a garage to get sorted. That's the one place that if something goes, it can kill the whole car.

Most garages, even Halfords (don't crucify me) offer a free diagnostic for things like that.

^ This and ^This.

Sounds like it could be tensioner related, in which case get it checked asap. If something with the timing fails it will all end in tears.... well, more tears than already having to have the tensioners done.
