I'm sure the RR will make her feel good, but there is a lot to be said for going to your car and knowing it will work. It takes a while to get that kind of feeling and relationship with a machine and it never shows up in a quick test drive around the block. Then in 5 years time when it passes another MOT with no advisories and came home from a service after just needing a service, nothing more, it's then you start to really appreciate it. It really is nice when things just work.

We have a four year old Evoque - bought new. To me it still looks amazing and is a wonderful place to sit in.

We have had lots of niggling, mainly electrical problems but we also needed a diff unit replacing - all under warranty.

It's fine to drive but a bit laggy as if it's trying to find the right gear. We've never got more than 34mpg (diesel). I'm sure the later models with 8/9 speed gearbox are much better.

Your spending a lot of money. Have the car you think you will enjoy driving the most. Every time I have let head rule hart with a car I've ended up regretting it.

I wouldn't sell the Yeti for less than £7k.

This. Shouldn't she be choosing? It's to be her car...
She the most low maintenance woman in the world , if I bought her a 10 year old fiesta as long as it was reliable she wouldn't care , when I say her car , in reality it's ours as my other car is a Maserati 4200 which would be crippling to use on a daily basis

She really would be happy with whatever she gets , I want to buy the Evoque but head is saying no
Listen to the head. Her excitement at her shiny new toy will be long forgotten when it keeps delivering bills and breakdowns that the Yeti didn't.

I love my Evoque. Great place to be every day. There is no comparison with some Korean piece of rubbish.
Ideally you want a 2014 or newer model though. Lots of good updates and with the 9 speed box 40mpg is easily achieved.
Try and get one with a service plan and your on to a winner. No issues with ours and it's used every single day.

One is classy, well built, looks good, reliable and has street cred and is good to drive, the other is an Evoque wink

The Evoque's are pretty robust cars after all they share their underpinnings with the Ford Kuga & they're known as a reliable choice you can also buy/extend the warranty & service pack if you want peace of mind & control over the running costs.

Another option is to get a Kuga which will be in warranty & have low miles.

The Mazda CX-5 & Volvo XC60 are good shouts although the Volvo will be similar in mileage to the Evouque unless you skimp on the toys.

A few of my friends have Evoques & so far no complaints about the cars but our local dealer could do with some customer service lessons apparently.

How about a Qashqai or Juke? Not to throw more options at you, but both are reliable and should suit her needs

Between the Evoque and Sportage I'd choose the Sportage though, Evoque's seem to have quite a few little issues

Just noticed motorpoint have 4 new import spec honda CR-V in for £22500 with delivery miles which is another option

The yeti is paid for so it doesn't have to go, another option is to change the Maserati, when I bought it I really wanted a quattroporte but for the money I had to spend there wasn't anything about, but if I sold the 4200 and put 10k to it there's a lot of choice.

parked next to a discovery sport last night , saw her googling on her phone then put it back in the bag when she saw 35k

It's not just a badge though is it, when I sat it it I felt it was classy, they've found their target market perfectly but I agree there's a lot to be said for reliability over style.

Might go and have a look at a CRV as it'll probably still be running when fossil fuels run out

Good for you.

Your statement as highlighted isn't really true for 2016. Have you seen the new Sportage? I am not a fan of SUV's or Kia's for that matter, but I'd go as far to say that the new Sportage is the best looking SUV on the market and probably one of the best value for money too.

I liked the Evoque years ago when they first appeared, reminded me of a moon vehicle of sorts (in a good way), but now they look just a bit average.

The Koreans have employed Europeans to ensure their cars have the quality and desirability to meet the standards Europeans want. Their cars aren't rubbish these days and are probably better in terms of quality where it counts, rather than just in the touchy, feely bits, than many European cars we think are reliable.

However, if the OP's wife wants an Evoque and has set her heart on one she's going to resent being forced into something else. Can she, or the OP, live with five or six years of driving one thing wishing it was something else, lusting after an Evoque every time she sees one? Chances are, if he makes her get a Kia, or anything other than the Evoque, it'll end up getting swapped for an Evoque sooner than he intended the car to be changed again.

I think not, the OP has said his Mrs is not really interested in cars. Sure she'll state an opinion but that doesn't mean it's something she really cares about; my Mrs would ask me for my view on new curtains but whatever she got I wouldn't care and by tomorrow I'd have forgotten what the choices were.

ETA, OP, the Honda would be well worth a look.

All I'm saying is she'd like an Evoque but we've never had a new car so a Kia of Honda would be fine , for years I've run cars in the 5-8k bracket changing every few months , bought cheap, sold on for pretty much the same , until I bought an Impreza WRX hatch which I absolutely loved , she never went over 60 in it, ever

Sold it because I needed the money , bought a golf, hated it , sold it in a month and went for the yeti , I'd say in the last 10 years I've suffered about £3000 in depreciation so spending this much money is totally alien to me.

the problem is the evoque had a light grey leather interior and it did lift the feel of the car considerably , she didn't get anything like the same buzz from an Evoque with the black interior

The best compromise would probably be any SUV with a light interior but all I can find is black

You do realise you just typed that out loud, yeah?

OP get her an Evoque, she'll love it. After all it's a girls car.

Someone mentioned a few possible alternatives. My 10 pence worth; The Kuga I've had. Only kept it a year, just didn't really get on with it tbh. Had the powershift gearbox which was a bit naff and I could never get 100% comfortable. Both BIG issues when it's your daily. My best mate runs a Mazda CX5 daily. Now that I do like, strong engine, great tech and equipment plus very cheap to run. Good car.

Also, if she doesn't like the Evoque you can always sell it on and probably not loose much.
