I think they're pretty and unusual looking (in a good way).

Had a DC5 a few years ago. Think that might be the best looking hatch of all time in my view.

ETA: assuming it's OK to post those photos given the Scirocco discussion above.

confused
The scirocco is a lovely looking car, as is the DC5, but both are coupes not hatchbacks, surely?
The Magane and Astra 3dr are both marketed as coupes too so it's just car companies blurring the lines a bit. You can buy a 4 door coupe if you like so it's a bit vague to say the least. I personally think provided the boot opens in a hatchback manner then it fits this topic, I might draw the line at an Audi TT though so I've just broken my own rule wink

Hang on... A Polo GTi? The best all round hot hatch?

Do I need a whoosh parrot or something?

I suppose that explains why the Megane RS and the Astra Vxr are the best looking "hatchbacks" hehe

If you do, the whole of PH will need one too! I do wonder if VW are aware of one man's ability to put an entire motoring community off their warm hatch offering wink

I've just done a quick search (if that's possible with the search on here).

I think enough has been said on this matter rofl

Just one thing to say, each to their own and all that, and it's great that we all like different things, but I reckon people who have this viewpoint few and far between. No doubt it's a decent enough car, but I've yet to see it ripping up the opposition in reviews (in fact, never seen it featured against the Clio, fiesta, 208 etc)

There you go https://youtu.be/DyALPOBp13I

Obviously he's wrong to pick the ST as the best all rounder as it's not. It isn't.

I've always understood a "hatchback" to mean that the rear screen moves with the rear boot lid, whereas in a proper coupe the rear screen and boot lid are separate.

Eta: making both the above hatches

That rules out an awful lot of traditionally thought of "coupes" though e.g. Corrado, Celicas, Cougar (and many others that don't begin with a 'C' wink)

For me, it's more the angle of the rear screen that defines it, if that makes any sense. But I will agree regarding the latest Scirocco, as I view it more as a traditional hatchback myself

In all fairness 35mm is pretty minimal. It doesn't even look lowered really it just makes it look how they all should look standard. Compare it directly next to one with normal suspension and you can certainly tell the difference. It's good though as you don't need to worry about going over speed humps and etc.

2.0 TSI is more than enough. If not you can always get it mapped which i believe they respond well do. The R styling is lovely though.
The speed bump ability is priceless as i've just moved house and my commute involves a route with 8 or so large speed bumps and the fiesta ST struggles with them to say the least! Yes I can't imagine it look lowered as the rear arch gap as standard is one of the biggest I've seen!

Exactly, they map safely to about 230ish. The look of the R is something special though, wheels bumpers and exhaust ... everything looks perfect to my eyes!

There's no downsides to it in my eyes. Looks better, drives better and doesn't compromise functionality. The springs new are only £150 quid aswell which is pretty good value.

Most VW engines seem to produce more bhp than originally quoted from the factory but i know the 2.0 TSI is a pretty strong unit. No cambelt to worry about either on them one's but saying that chain driven engines aren't particularly VW's forte.

I really miss mine now frown

I know it's bad form to nominate your own car but I do think the current model Leon looks good, particularly as a 5dr. I hate most of the body kits on a lot of current hot hatches. Obviously it's down to personal choice but if we are talking looks rather than performance or handling I'd take the Leon all day long.

Surely they go higher than that? The 1.8 TSI in my Polo goes to 225 bhp with just a superchips (£399) map. That said it seems to pump out 15 bhp or so more than the claimed 190bhp
