Cupra/Golf R. I want to like the S3, but it's just so damn boring.
You nominate the Golf R because you think the S3 looks boring ..... erm scratchchin

A completely subjective topic and the definition 'modern' means different things to different people but to my somewhat biased eye this is the answer:

Other variants also brilliant in the right colours:

Just to be totally different I think the Suzuki Swift Sport still looks pretty fresh.

Saw one yesterday which had black alloys and it look very smart.

Again the Clio 200 still look good. A lot better than the new model in my opinion.

Out of the recent crop the Megane RS is the best looking.

As I own one, I am going to be completely biased and agree.

As a more genuine answer though,I always liked the Ibiza Bocanegra:

RenaultSport have really hit the nail on the head with hot hatches of the last 15 or so years.

R26.R Megane in the right colours was a cool looking thing, that said I still love the Megane 225 and also the 250 models onwards.

VW make some handsome looking cars and the latest Golf R is very smart but maybe a bit too subtle. I may be a bit (totally!) biased but I always thought the first Twingo 133 looked good for a tiny hot hatch.

Rather partial to a Golf Edition 30, in black flavour.

If we're talking new then probably the Mk7 GTI, looks nicer than the R in my opinion. Unfortunately there is not many new hot hatches that look particularly good, they are just too overdone, one too many lines, bubbles, add-ons and bodykits that have ruined it.

Im sure all the 80s and 90s hatches we love looked the same in the 80s and 90s though.

Renault range isn't bad, but for me the clio stuff is the best looking

Still think the Mk1 Leon Cupra R is one of the best looking hatches in recent years(yes i am biased as i own an FR mk1)

Subtle does not equal boring. The golf R, in my books, is subtle. The S3 is just yawn.

Each to their own, but the Golf R looks pretty much like the GTD. I see 5 or 6 Golf Rs on my morning commute and a small part of me despairs every single time.

Are you saying that the polo is a girls car? It's the fastest hatch on the market, it's for real men.

The new Polo GTi should not be snift at.......Top Gear Magazine had a group hot hatch test a while back. The little Polo posted a quicker time to 60 (6.2sec) that the Golf GTi (6.7sec) ......👍

Clio 197/200 looks like a mini touring car. When they are lowered with some spacers even better.
Agreed! They look suitably different from the cooking models too as they have proper extended arches (metal rear and composite front) unlike the meganes that have plastic stick on arch extensions.

6.2

Auto express hit 5.7 in the mini JCW in a group test so maybe the polo isn't the fastest junior hot hatch after all
