Dear, oh dear. I'm starting to see the C63 in the hands of some unsavoury characters these days. It's a shame because it's a car I've lusted after for many year.

Last weekend I observed one with a very dodgy matt-wrap, gangsta music blaring out, and with the driver wearing a baseball cap. Backwards.

He was stuck in a long traffic jam and used every opportunity when he was inching forward to rev the nuts off the engine.

Sure, the exhaust sounds mighty fine - mainly when you're going through a tunnel or a motorway. But with lots of pedestrians around, and many frustrated car drivers, it's not the best way to show off the sound of the car.

So, has the C63 gone council?

A popular model with the West London fraternity.

Gone?

Hasn't it been the car of choice for many unsavoury types for a few years now?

Shame, because I really wanted one.

They are the new money way of showing others that you're able to afford a high monthly payment on a lease, though.

Yes. They are in the hands of weapons grade "whats your lowest price innit" category now. Shame, but there you go.

It's a car with a terrible image problem, certainly. Beloved by chavvy idiots.

Indeed. It might take the edge off, that's all.

Lots of cars I like have a poor image...

Monaro - Vauxhall badge,
Evo - chav scum,
Lexus ISF - dull accountant,
etc.

Doesn't stop them being great cars.

Been like it for a while. Specifically white coupes with black wheels

Darker saloons seems to have avoided the worst of it.

Still want one.

The estate seems Chav free, that would be the one I have, however they have always been fairly chavvy!

Any German saloon is subject to this sort of behavior, M3s potentially more so as they're cheaper.

I bought my C63 coupe in October last year and you'll get attention from unsavory characters but I'd try not to let the image of a car ruin your enjoyment of it.

I can see how this will go already,

Yes, what people are skirting around is that that car is being bought by young guys of a certain racial background, generally in inner cities and they have a certain behaviour pattern which involves going a bit fast, showing off a bit and playing loud music ?

You can say that, it isn't a race hate crime, it is an observation, and it wouldn't stop me buying one even though I wouldn't want to be associated with the typical behaviour, rather than any issue with anyone's race.

Certain other groups perhaps cant afford them I expect as they spend their money more on boozing, if you don't drink that frees up a few quid, I suspect also that guys that drive that kind of motor perhaps have some have slightly unconventional income streams, interesting finance arrangements, creative insurance policies or just spend all their money on their car whilst living with their parents.

I live in the west mids, and to be fair the C63's have always attracted some unsavoury sort. Equally not all C63 owners are the same, I picked up a low miles 2012 C63 estate from the dealer 6months ago and intend on keeping it for as long as I can afford to run it.

I own a baseball cap, but don't wear it backwards smile

I agree. I think the estates have a far better image. I see the owners of those as something quite different. Rightly or wrongly, but there you go.
