Last night I saw a middle-aged, shaved headed man in a C63 coupe last night. He was sat at the traffic lights, windows down, stereo up, blipping the throttle, then nailed it when the lights changed. Sounded good, no doubt (apart from the music choice), but the C63 really does tend to attract attention-we owners.

Blimey.

I'd wanted a C63 for years, ever since they appeared as the safety car in the Formula 1. I'd been to a few races, heard it, and just knew I'd have one at some point in my life.

I worked really hard over the last year or two, and picked up a low mileage black coupe last year, which I adore. I was really nervous about spending that kind of money on a car, but my late mother who passed not long after told me at the time to just go for it, you only live once etc.

I absolutely love this car, it's just superb, a great all rounder which feels like an event every time I drive it.

I'm quite shocked by some of the comments, because it's certainly not a cheap car to buy?! And it costs a fortune to fuel it and replace the tyres. I treat it like my pride and joy. I hardly see any of them, so I don't know where they are all hiding. I see lots of E9X M3's which is a car I test drove before test driving the C63.

I guess it's the same with any model/make. There are numpties in all of them.

I am shocked by the comments given my experiences of ownership, but none the less, it doesn't stop me loving it any less than I do. It's just a great car, which has made a serious impression on me. One to remember me thinks.

People are just quick to generalise and love putting certain stamps on certain cars. I personally would never turn down a looked after C63 as I don't give a monkeys about what is deemed as 'council' by faceless keyboard warriors.

Dear, oh dear. I'm starting to see the C63 in the hands of some unsavoury characters these days. It's a shame because it's a car I've lusted after for many year.

Last weekend I observed one with a very dodgy matt-wrap, gangsta music blaring out, and with the driver wearing a baseball cap. Backwards.

He was stuck in a long traffic jam and used every opportunity when he was inching forward to rev the nuts off the engine.

Sure, the exhaust sounds mighty fine - mainly when you're going through a tunnel or a motorway. But with lots of pedestrians around, and many frustrated car drivers, it's not the best way to show off the sound of the car.

So, has the C63 gone council?
Yep. No doubt but it still has some way to go to match the older M5s. wink

There is one positive thing I can say about these mouth-breathers and that is that they really do know how to pick decent sounding cars, that thing sounds awesome!

You're clearly a real enthusiast with a love of what this car encapsulates - the last of the great NASP engines, with almost silly displacement, and something (sadly) we will never get the opportunity to experience again. You've worked hard to afford it so should be able to enjoy it, in your shoes I'd simply try to address the balance of the minority.

If it wasn't for the fact that I wanted a manual I'd buy one tomorrow. Having test driven one I'm back to finding a M3.

Enjoy it, it's a simply fantastic car you havesmile

Thank you kind sir.

Interestingly, I really liked the 'feel' of the E9X M3's when I had a few goes. However the C63 was a hero, which I enjoyed meeting! The C63 has this 'aura' or feeling of an 'event' when I drive it, which was missing in the M3. I was shocked that I felt like that, and still do, but the C63 feels like it's a really naughty lad dressed in a nice suit. The M3 is super precise, but I didn't enjoy the fact it sounded best at mega revs. I didn't want to seem like one of these 'council' sorts by having to give it the full berries to enjoy the sound. The C63 is great at any revs.

To add, if anyone wants a passenger ride in a C63, and to experience a non-council experience of one, I'd be happy to oblige! I find a lot of people, generally speaking, will make comment without experiencing something first hand. So I'd be happy to help.

Only on Pistonheads would an owner of an M3/C63 have to defend his or herself against mass criticism of being a 'chav' biggrin

Unfortunately it happens to most decent coupes sooner or later. The ingredients seem to be.

1) Epic depreciation as it quickly puts it within means of unsavoury types
2) Right "premium" badge.
3) Doesn't change too much between model years or face-lifts i.e. most German cars so they can put a private plate on it and pretend it's new and hence worth a lot more than it is.
4) Has an abundance of power and a loud exhaust
5) Available in all black for the "gangsta" look although white with black wheels is also acceptable but HAS to also have the optional privacy glass fitted or else it gets applied (badly) afterwards by a mate.
6) If neither of the two colours above are available for the right price, it will get wrapped (badly) by the same mate who did the tinted windows (badly) in a variety of colours but it HAS to be in that matt finish that looks like someone forgot to add the lacquer to the paint.
7) The accelerator will then be treated as an on\off switch for maximum acceleration\kangaroo effect every few yards.
8) Will soon end up with mismatched tyres when it inevitably gets a puncture from smashing into curbs etc and it will never be serviced while in it's ownership or at best the mate who did the windows and matt wrap will service it (badly)
9) Will get crashed, get repaired (badly) by the mate who did the windows and wrap then sold to an unscrupulous dealer who will give the mileage a shave, loose what paperwork if any was leftover from the previous owner and then sell it on to the next wrung down of undesirable owner or more likely a PH'er looking for a bargain.

Have I missed anything. biggrin
yes his misus will be orange and drive his old X5 or white RR sport ....biggrin
will be found on side/roof or rear ended behind a roundabout with this weather anytime soon because of 8 and 9

generally i would agree but sometimes it can cause issues, when scoobies where at the height of their popularity and still quite expensive it was like being in a club, it was very rare that another scooby owners wouldn't wave as you passed each other

eventually the prices went down and the 'chavs' started to buy them, owners stopped waving and in NW kent for a time they became high priority for the rozzers to pull over and have a chat because of all the scroates driving them like pillocks

i sold mine after the 5th time i was stopped in 6 months for no reason, to much unwanted attention can be bad
