Funny thing is I sadly remember E24 BMW's got this reputation in the 90's, often with blacked out windows and chrome wheel arches - for me it was very sad there having been one in our family as a kid in the 80's. Nowadays they're considered a modern classic and I'll see them at car shows/meetssmile

I have lusted after an M3/C63 since I passed my test some 10 years ago. Now that they are in reach in terms of price and insurance I cant help but be turned off by the stereotype.

The owner of the 2nd hand car dealership near my office has a silver C63 with a plate worthy of the Chav thread. He floors it from cold, revs it in traffic and plays loud music with the window down even in the rain. I still give it a cursory glance every now and then and cant deny it sounds great but ...no thanks.

I have vowed to the OH that when we have our first kid Im getting an estate version - essence of cool.

Never understood the logic behind this. Are people so insecure that they're scared others may associate them with these council folk just because they own the same car? Who cares what other people think.

It does demonstrate how image concious some people are - though of course few like to admit it.

Agreed there seem to be a lot of dicks driving C63s, but then, there are a lot of dicks driving generally. Perhaps the ones driving C63s are more noticeable to PHers because of their choice of vehicle?

Living your life based on worrying about what other people will think about you seems a tad depressing....

Let's be honest 90% of the population do it, whether at a Conscious or subconscious level, he shouldn't be vilified for or his opinion it is nothing unusual, consumerism is built on it.

There's quite a few badly driven c63's round where I live in north London although for sheer bad taste there is a my05 SL driving round wood green area with cobra stripes made of skateboard griptape(sandpaper) and cheap universal fit drift wing.

What is? Not wanting to wear Burberry?

My point being if i so desired to own what is one of the best of its kind cars such as a C63, i wouldnt concern myself as to what some people in some council estate miles away chose to do.

If you're that insecure thats your problem.

As long as it keeps them from ruining Bentleys (alright they seem to be doing a pretty good job of that from the styling dept these days)
