I think 2 years is the longest I've kept anything, a Fiat Coupe 20VT. It was quite cheap and I was skint at the time. Still miss the 5 pot warble.

We kept my wife's XC90 just shy of four years. It was so good.

Shortest was a Saab 9-3 convertible. Wobbly doesn't begin to cover it. 6 weeks then I was into a Subaru Legacy Spec-B.

Recently got a M3 V8 Cab. as I don't do many miles I hope I will manage to keep it at least two years. Early signs are good. I really like it.

My current EP3. Had it 2.5 years now. Weirdly it's also the one I've enjoyed the least. Great for the first 8 weeks then I started to hate it.

Cheap motoring though for what it is.

I've had the Elise for seven years now, I think. Longest I've kept a car, anyway.

I bought my TVR Tuscan convertible in May 2009.
Can't see me ever wanting to part with it.

This week I've driven down to the Algarve in it, nearly 1700 miles.
Lots of friendly comments on the way from both car and biker nuts.
Had a couple of young Spaniards sat in it having their photos taken smile
Quite a few comments of "only seen one in the computer game".

I love this car. smile

Still have my Caterham after 22 years. It is a bit quicker now than when I first built it, and still raises a grin every time I drive it.
I also owned a Discovery for 10 years. I myst have had a good one as it was reliable and no problem.
Hmmm maybe it is time for another Defender.....

Bought my Civic new in March 2007 with the intention of running it for 3 years.

212k miles later and it refuses to die so is still in my ownership (although its replacement arrived a couple of months back so it's about to be sold).

So nearly 9.5 years.

14 years and still got it a little Audi A3 1.8T sport, moved house 4 times with it, its seen many a different girlfriend, never had any real issues with it, looks a bit battered from outside but its a very sound car, I like the fact I don't have to worry about dings and dents etc.

I have had the mini for 11 years now.

The Marcos for 5 years however it has been in the family since 1972.

I often think of selling for a faster more reliable car such as a Caterham or Exige but keep telling myself that I will regret it in the long run.

Bought my Panther Lima 27 years ago and have put about 60,000 miles on the clock, bought the 328 11 years ago and have put about 30,000 miles on her. I'm not sure what that says, but I do use them when I can at least...

Longest so far was my first car, 1.6 Focus LX. Bought it in July 2006, part exchanged it 4.5 years later in early 2011. Still miss it a bit frown

I bought my standard Beetle in 1978 as my first ever car, customised it over the next four years and still own it today, its never likely to be ever sold. This pic was taken cica 1986

My current car, a 2006 Astra, had it for just over 6 years and it is used every day, but has a relatively low mileage of 62000.

6 years for our little Panda 100hp - hardly gets used these days but just too much of a hoot to move on. It's going to be my eldest daughter 1st car so it should be with us for a while longer too.

My ST170. 5 years now which is strange as I rarely keep a car more than 12 months. Not the best anything but very good at everything. Low mileage for what is a 14 year old car at 89k.

Fourteen years. Bright red 986 Boxster S. Still love it. No interest in selling/changing.

My Audi RS2 for 9.5 years, the 996 GT3 for seven and a bit years, my Caterham for more than thirteen years. I don't like selling 'em, y'see. biggrin

However, the Lotus Elan Sprint I've just acquired was owned for 44 years from new by the original purchaser. yikes
Jesus Christ on a vintage bike! I've owned an Alfa 2 years. I usually get itchy after a year.

To the people who keep it simple, with things like the Caterham, MX5 and Elise. I love that approach to life. Less is more. But how do you live with them so long and not get tired of the noise etc? I can only presume these are second or third cars which are only used on special occasions.

So I would suggest a different category for cars in daily use. Who has owned a daily for the longest?
