What's the longest you have kept a car?
Discussion
My longest is still a couple of years for the Alfa. However I am starting the count all over again now. Currently at 2 days However my aim is to smash my record into the weeds. New toy is a mk1 MX5. It makes my Alfa feel like a huge wobbly blob of limp jelly (yet it felt rather sharp when I first got it, after getting out of a CLS!)

Five years and seven months with my Chimaera, and still enjoying every smile inducing minute
From my original post: I don't mean a box of parts in the garage for the last 30 years. I mean a car in (almost) regular use.Don't worry I loved my Chimaera and should never have sold it

I actually got my post wrong, I've had the MGB Roadster a few years longer than the Chimaera, probably nearer eight years, but you're nearly spot on with the box of parts in the garage bit, it's been off the road for about five years now..
And the Chimaera is used all year round in all weathers..
(Though not always successfully )

12 years. MG TF160, from new, factory ordered, most of the options boxes ticked.
Well, it's switched between my dad and myself a few times in that period.
I work with a chap who has a 1967 Mini Cooper that his dad bought new and he inherited a few years ago. Driven regularly for all those years. Must ask him how many miles it's covered...

I've just sold our old VW Bora tdi auto after 16 years :sob: I thought it was going to see me out.
It was still comfortable, still reliable, still frugal. I only swapped it for an Xtrail as I needed a better tow-car/hold-all for my hillclimb car. The Xtrail doesn't start as instantly as the old Bora did.

Mk2 rev3 Mr2 Turbo 10 years middle of next month if it doesn't sell by then. DD by wife for 6 of those years. If I could afford to keep it I would as nothing else I (now can't!) afford comes close.
Not much else stays on that long when you average 40k miles a year tbh although new idea of passing working car on to wife might reverse this trend- 190k octavia now 5.5 years or so and she only does 10k a year

Historically I've only ever kept cars for a year before moving on... but I kept my last car (Clio 182) for 4 years as I just loved the thing! To be honest I want to try and keep cars for slightly longer than the previous one from now on as I end up doing so much to them I just want to enjoy them more rather than just losing lots of money!
Also, this is the first car I've owned (now a MCS since end of last year) where I've had a mortgage and a kid (on the way) so I imagine I'll be having less money for cars at least for a while!
