Point of order, Sir! That wasn't the Manta B coupe. That was the Manta hatch (or Cavalier SportsHatch - my mother had one). And it was launched in 1975, anyway. This was the Manta B coupe...

Looks like the product of that purveyor of styling and performance accoutrements to the Russian Oligarch/Saudi sheikh playboy demographic: Mansory http://www.mansory.com/enIf you want a good laugh, whilst simultaneously vomiting in horror at how they 'accessorise' beautiful cars, have a good look at how they (and there can be no other term for this) 'rape' vehicles which needed nothing added.
Imagine crashing a perfectly good Ferrari 458 into the "Tuning and styling" section of Halfrauds and you'll get the idea.

A 220i Luxury is under £29k. Add a few grand of options and you get to about £32k. A long way off £40k. The M Sport trim is about a grand more than the Luxury trim. The equivalent Gran Tourer is c.£30.5k before options. All these figures are before discount. You could easily get a couple grand knocked off.
So, a quite good (but quite ugly) family car with a decent spec. costs low £30ks before discount in 2016. Quite reasonable, if you ask me, especially for those paying the South East Tax.
And no, I don't own one. However, I can easily see that they are an attractive prospect for many, especially those with kids. Which is quite a large proportion of the population.

You know what, I'm actually going to rail against this one. It's popular to slate the Probe, but at the time it was a huge breath of fresh air (listen to JC rave about it here), and still doesn't look revolting. The design is cohesive, and the large glass area makes it look modern and airy.I don't have any great affinity for the Probe, and have never actually driven one. But, bear in mind that this was released in 1989, at a time when coupe styling was done with a ruler and set-square. Nostalgia aside, the 80s were a decade that foisted the following coupe 'designs' on the public...
All are infinitely more worthy of a place in this thread than the Probe.
I remember my boss having a series of those honda's- they were utter cutting edge stuff, looked sharp, looked fast, 4 wheel steer and all that. I remember him changing to new vauxhall calibra's of all things (remember them) and they were so cheap instead.
as for the manta- what boy in the 80's didn't want something as manly as a Manta !

I don't see anything specifically wrong with that; it just looks like every other small modern hatchback, considerably better resolved than some.
What?! It's the automotive equivalent of a child so ugly it's parents have to tie a pork chop around it's neck just so the dog will play with it! And offering one as a prize on Britain's Best Cars is an insult. Jackaal said:

You could get a QP V version which is equally bizarrely proportioned. They seem to have made the back end comedically huge. I'm sure most hearses you see in the UK aren't that distended.
Pilato of Italy do a Jag...but UK ones are ugly
