Hi All,

Purchased a 2012 BMW 116i back in November 2014. During the tenure of my ownership, I have faced so many problems and have had enough. Did I buy a rotten apple or shall I give BMW another chance? Below are a list of issues that I have had by date:

5th January 2015 - Car performance was very bad. This ended up being a cylinder coil problem and it was resolved.

4th June 2015 - Black smoke was coming out of the exhaust if revving the car over 3000 rpm. This was caused by a 'software issue'- This issue was resolved.

18th September 2015 - Coolant hose leak. Also, cylinder coil needed replacing yet again.

23rd June 2016- Oil pressure valve dies. Damage caused to engine and has caused me over £1k worth of bills.

Shall I ditch the car or keep it?

I'd sell it, then buy a good BMW, not a crappy 116i probably in white. For that money you could have bought an older and better one

Yes, it sounds like a knackered old 3 series is exactly what the OP is after

And that interior is vile!

Think you've just been unlucky.

BMW's petrol engines have a very solid reputation.

That's very true. It's just unfortunate that everything else around the engine is made of cheese.

Wouldn't own another BMW....

Buy a low mileage 3 year old Lotus Elise to find out what a proper list of faults looks like.

Tbh with my Z4MC and now my 1 series I chose to get the great warranty BMW suggest.

It saved me thousands on the Z4 and probably thousand so far on my 1 series.

All cars pick up faults if you use them.
