My 80 year old father-in-law has just gone out in his Golf GTi that he has had since 2010, ex demo bought at 6 months old. His beach buggy, bought in the 70s, hasn't moved much recently and only did a couple of hundred miles last year...

I've recently passed the half century myself and am thinking about remapping my D5 C30...

On the way home from work until fairly recently I used to regularly see a woman who was clearly in her 60's in L1 at the speed limit driving a Clio 200.

Im 48, but I dont feel any different than 25 years ago, just know what to avoid a bit better, my dad is on about getting a Focus ST at 71, and why wouldnt you, who says you get to a certain age and have to have something like a Jazz.

Going to get an M4 or Mustang for my 50th.

We seem to have drifted far away from hot hatches.

OK, it isn't hot, by most standards, but my old man's 65-plate 1.4 auto Corsa is the most powerful car he's ever owned, and he turns 85 next month biggrin

This is a fun thread and what today's youngsters forget is that the people now in their 60 and 70s grew up in the era of Led Zeppelin, Sex Pistols, Black Sabbath, et all, plus mods, rockers, fights on Brighton sea front on bank holiday Mondays and the era of football violence and pre-segregated crowds on terraces. Lively times and livelier music than today's Ed Sheeran generation are listening to....So hardly any surprise that they aren't going quietly as pensioners and why should they?!

Me, I'm a mere 50 year old and find myself more and more attracted to cars that have a certain boy racer taint. Currently scanning EP3 Civic Type Rs in Ebay, or cheap Saxo VTRs..... I won't grow up.....
Good post and very true.

My mates grandad still has his 911 Turbo that he brought new in the 80’s. He must be over 80 now but to be fair does normally drive a Picanto.

Thinking about it, my mum kept her Audi S3 past her 60th and now has a Mk7 Golf GTI. Really doubt either car has been over 3000 revs.

I'm 48 and brought myself a very nice low mileage Fn2 this year. I know it's the one that Clarkson slagged off but I find it more than fast enough for the road. Much underated car

Mums boyfriends dad drove a Granada cosworth till 92, jag Xj till 93 then a Merc s430 till 95 when he gave up driving.

He got a Ford ka as a courtesy car and almost killed himself a few times when he went for overtakes and it didn’t gain speed.

I took my 75 year-old Dad to the Fiat dealer on Saturday. We test-drove a brand new Abarth 595 and he bought it there and then.
Update?
