I always theorised that unscrupulous dealers were aggressively upselling top spec models to vulnerable older people who came in for the base model.
In the early 90s I spoke to someone at a Ford dealer that said the reason lots of oldies in our area drove XR2s they'd bought in the 80s was that they went in to the showroom and demanded the top of the range Fiesta.

Meanwhile, my old man bought my fairly modified Puma off me aged 70 and ran it in to the ground over the following decade.

Oh, and there used to be a woman in her 50s who drove into my place of work in a 90s Skyline.

One old hot hatch and one new hot hatch...........Sunbeam Lotus and Peugeot 208 GTi for me.
Although I have turned the wrong side of 50 , I still need the fix of a small fun fast car .......... stuff what others might think.

I've got a customer in his late 60's who has a Clio 200. And another who has a liquid yellow Clio 200 R27 F1 with recaros and all!!

There's also a lady round my way who must be in her 50's who drives a green mk2 Focus RS. She's tiny too so it looks proper odd!

I guess this is some sort of euphamism?

Or is this thread getting a bit strange?

Christ! Talking about 40's being old? I am 68 and drive a Cayman as a daily. 20k miles per year.
You guys make me feel I should trade in for a Zimmer!
Also probably drink too much, smoke too much and my daughter asks me when I am going to grow up?
Answer? Never. Seen it and don't like the look of it.
Also feel about 25 so there!

Take solace in the fast that 25 year olds are posting questions about mpg and insurance premiums wink

I gave my puma to my 72 year old dad, I doubt he knows what it is, let alone gives a fk what people think.

Why not? My dad (66) is reasonably keen on a lime green Focus RS. He doesn't live far from Essex though.

True Yonex.
I think that once you reach they start to bounce you like an 18 year old.
Maybe as the mind goes I won't notice.

The title of the thread is old people in hot hatches, not old people in a variety of random cars.

I've never looked at a car and its owner and thought they aren't right for it. I couldn't care less. I don't care what people eat, drink, shag, wear, so they can drive whatever too.

I'd have a Jetta GTI 16V again in a heartbeat, if I could :

find one in decent unmolested condition
ship it to Canada
Canada would let it in (think a 1991 big bumper model is now eligible)

And the missus didn't find out.....!!

Oh, and I am 44....
