Iv seen a lot of old folks (65 upwards) driving around in the seventh generation celica. Im always gobsmacked by it.
Why? They're old enough to have owned every generation so why would they stop?

Whenever I see an older bloke in something like a Focus RS, Type R, RS Megane etc I always just think 'Good Lad'! They could have gone with a more discrete Golf R or S3 but no, they've thought fk what people think I'm driving what I want!
RS Megane is hardly as flamboyant as the former two let's be honest tongue out
Well, depends on the colour. This was my second Trophy.

Brilliant car but not as good as this

I'm 55 now, I don't sweat too much about it but I'm really disappointed by fellow car nuts who care so much about what their car says about them. Me, I buy the best drivers car I can get for a reasonable budget that will cope with my empty nest life.I don't need my wife to drive it, I don't have young kids , I do need something that's reasonably practical because the other car is more of an indulgence.

I find it odd some people care what cars people drive based on their age...drive whatever the hell you want, life is too short!

I purchased a E46 M3, car blue paint grey interior so befitting my age group. Unfortunately found the ride to harsh and to powerful for my driving style on the roads. Sure I could have bumbled around at sensible speeds but then I thought ‘what am I doing’ don’t need this performance, so sold it. I’m was 67 years at that time.

I don’t ‘wear’ my cars.

They are things in their own right that I like and occasionally drive about.

I don’t care what they are supposed to ‘say’ about me. I ain’t talking. hehe

I'm 65 with a 17 plate golf R that i bought new to replace my Boxster S.

In March I bought a Mini Cooper Pro challenge car to race. Passed my race medical etc. Did one track day and race and then...

Found I needed ot to go and have a heart operation, bloody typical. Can't wait to get back in the cars post op, lol. Driving the R like miss daisy at the mo!

Whats the cut-off for age and a hot hatch?

For a site that is always complaining that everyone buys cars on finance because they are image obsessed, it sure is image obsessed. wink

Are you saying it's the same people who complain about the image obsessed using finance to buy cars who are complaining about old people in fast cars?

At a party years ago a chap was trying to impress me. He wasn't a humorous man; everything he said was to be taken seriously. Trying to find common ground I asked him about his cars. He said, "I've got a big one and my wife's got a hot hatch." I didn't laugh and I didn't resort to innuendo, just made my excuses and went for another beer.

Very true.

Is it time for an article in PH about old timers and their inappropriately fast cars? Especially old timers borrowing money to fund their fast car habit. Ooh, no, better still, releasing equity to squander their offsprings' inheritance on fast cars.

Every time my old man says "I'm going to spend some of your inheritance on a new motor!" we tell him to go ahead and enjoy it...biggrin

He's 85 next month, but I don't think a 1.4 auto Corsa counts as a hot hatch eek

Edit - I'm pretty sure it is the most powerful motor he's ever had, in over 60 years of driving...

The old man has done 600 miles so far and is starting to open it up a bit now, he loves it so far. Another 600 miles to go and he will open it up to full on mental! X2 M35i.

I may then have to borrow it...
