Old people and hot hatches
Discussion
There's a guy in his 70's in my village drives a Focus RS mk1, only ever uses it to pootle to the shops 2-3 times a week, I've never seen him drive it over 30mph or exceed about 2000rpm, even on the fast A road that is his route to the shops.
I've even had to overtake him before now when I've been driving my mums Vauxhall Agila 1.0l!
I'm sure he hasn't got a clue what he's actually got, and probably just bought it because he liked the colour.

Was next to an elderly lady on Sunday in a petrol station in Newquay who was filling up her 16 plate polo GTI. Proper pink rinse and everything!
Her partner took about 10 mins to walk across the forecourt and get in the car. I hope they enjoy the car as much as I would...
The question is which station? The offensively expensive Texaco or the much more reasonably priced Morrisons? Her partner took about 10 mins to walk across the forecourt and get in the car. I hope they enjoy the car as much as I would...
My mum had a 500 Abarth as she wanted a 500 but was coming out of an E46 M3, so my dad wanted her in the 'best one'. Then it was decided it was a little much and she didn't like the convertible, so she has a Twinair. I think that's the case. An older lady wants a cute hatch but her husband wants the best one for her. Many years ago something similar happened. A neighbours mum wanted out of an older ranger rover and decided a 3 series would be nice. So her husband bought her an brand new E30 M3! Madness.
My Gran has a lowered mapped 335i with 19's tinted windows, an upgraded stereo & exhaust it's very funny when you see people's faces when they pull up beside her what's even more funny is when she smokes them from the lights, my grandad is about to pull the trigger on a CL63 so Wormus get the car YOU want not the one you think society will regard as acceptable

The 'best' in those circumstances was left hand drive? My mum had a 500 Abarth as she wanted a 500 but was coming out of an E46 M3, so my dad wanted her in the 'best one'. Assuming you're in a right hand drive country, that sounds like the most annoying and least convenient for an older person.

Is this a Bingo night thread, there's a whiff of stale piss
Oh dear, bladder control gone again? I'm 57 so an old git, but have what could loosely be described as 2 hot hatches - 325ti Sport Compact for daily duties (and ferrying nonagenarian mother to various hospital appointments) plus a Z4 Coupe for quiet back road entertainment.
Love them both, and while a good 130i might cover all bases it just wouldn't have the looks of the Z4C - I can't help looking back at it when I have parked it!
The shocking thing is the widespread assumption that you are past it - in an automotive and every other sense- after 45 or 50. I wonder if the ...err...PH yoof is remotely aware of how many older people are on here ? Listen - if you are under 40 and think the grim reaper will be knocking on your door soon then go to an event like an HSCC race meeting where you will see drivers from their late teens to their early 70s racing - and don't think the younger guys are always at the front either .

Another point, when you get older. You have already, done the family route of life.
Later on you have more time and maybe a bit of money around.
Drive till you die
