Old people and hot hatches

Reading the thread should I go out and buy shares in August Storck? Makers of Werther's original in case you wondered.
FFS, what's wrong with driving what you want?
Speaking of driving what you want, there's a very trim single lady, no longer in the first flush of youth, who drives an immaculate Lancia Fulvia 1.6Rallye HF Fanalone. I had to work quite hard to keep up one day.
Realise now that sounds as if it can be interpreted in many ways. I behave myself, honest. It's just your filthy minds.

Wormus get the car YOU want not the one you think society will regard as acceptable
Good advice although the only thing stopping me from buying more is space to keep them and time to drive them. On a related note I picked my 14 yo son up from Scouts last night in my trusty train station Saab. It wears its battle scars well but in spite of its obvious class, fine heater and legendary, comfy seats, he finds it embarrassing. Not helped by one of the other Dads calling it a 'shed' as I drove out. At least I put shoes on this time.wormus said:

How's the Monaro?
Very well thanks, has the occasional electrical fit where a random sensor will complain through lack of use but I've found the more I drive it, the better it gets. Took it to American speed fest at Brands a few weeks back which was fantastic fun, even with the rain. On the way back on the motorway I gave it full throttle past an open top yank tank full of Rockerbillys. They all laughed and waved with V8-induced roar which put a massive, childish grin on my face. There's a few people that have said as much about me being mid 50's and driving a slightly modified BMW 135i.
Next car will be more age related (getting in and out of something that low is getting ever more undignified ) ...... plus I need something with more space and better ground clearance for other reasons.
Of course the weekend toy when it finished will be much more appropriate for my age group
Back when I was a yoof and first getting into motorsport, one of the committee of my local motor club was in his early 70's, and he'd just bought a brand new Capri 3.0S, and drove it everywhere like he's stole it

I remember back in the halcyon days of 70s road rallying, all us young hot shots, in our racing overalls etc used to be amused at one club chairman, late 60s, who competed in country gent attire, tweed jacket, check shirt, twill trousers, sensible brogues. He was always on the pace or thereabouts.
Think I persuaded my Dad to ditch the Volvo 760 turbo estate and get an E36 BMW M3 Convertible when he was about 50. You're never too young to have a bit of fun!
We're conditioned from a very early age into what we show do and the way we should do it. What's right, what's wrong. Too many people believe 9-5 job, buying a house, getting married, having kids, paying off a mortgage and driving a dull eurobox is what you do in life.
You have one life, do what you want and live it.
If you haven't read it, try reading "The Dice Man"!
(Just hit 44, but have been in mid-life crisis since twenty - had the cars, done multiple marathons, cycle etc)

Been in hot hatches since my teens and will be in them until I die. Currently 43 and in a MK5 GTI. Happily not married and blissfully child free. Don't want or need any other car at the moment and I'm certainly not old enough for a boring Jag or lifestyle 'estate' car.
40 is the new 30 anyway, and you're only as old as the woman you feel, and mine is ten years younger
