I can see where your coming from, but that's not correct. The engine is not British.
Right, because the British are well known for their rich heritage in electric cars. wink

SAAB og900 with Trionic5 engine management from a later 9000/ng900.

Benefits - smoother, more economical, better power, totally mappable, tune out gearbox-killing torque spikes, and looks totally factory as management was designed to work with the same engines in later cars.

Cars came 175bhp stock, but easily map to 200bhp without any undue strain on the mechanicals.

As standard:

(Lucas fuel injection, distributor w/vacuum advance ignition, APC analogue boost control based on knock detection, systems not linked)

Trionic5:

(fuelling/boost control/coil pack ignition all controlled by one system, totally mappable)

Erm is everybody getting mixed up, the British thing was referring to the K-series in the Frontline car, which replaced the A-series as the Leyland staple engine for small cars.
And the electric Frog has been done about five times stateside by some talented home garage types.
Maybe Im due a whoosh. biggrin

I would love to modernize my '67 Volvo 1800 S

I can't decide what engine would suit it best tough. Always liked the idea of a V8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWMGbxlWlnE

And then again I think the running gear of a E34 M5 would suit the car better....

threespires quoted your reply about the electric MGC rather than your earlier post about the car with an engine.

I was being a cheeky bh and very gently ribbing about that. I think maybe it didn't come across such.

Has to be a Volvo engine, surely?

A 5-cyl Volvo turbo perhaps, or if budget allows the XC90 and S80 were available with a V8. A quick google reveals it to be the B8444S, available from 2005–2010 and developing 311bhp. Should be satisfactory performance. biggrin

A Sierra 3 door Cosworth with a B204 turbo engine and modern brakes etc would be awesome.

Why would you want to replace the Cosworth YB with a worse engine?

or a Jaguar Mk2 with the F-Type supercharged V8

Quite frankly, whoever did this needs putting away for life for totally fking up the classic design of the MkII Jaguar with those dire wheels 'orrible lights and buggered up ride height.

Are we at crossed lines here? I wasn't referring to the electric engine. ☺

He guessed the 6 cyl engine in the blue Sprite could be an MGC. I agree with him that on first sight it could be but it's not a British engine.

Do you know what the 6 cyl engine is from?

Worse how?...it'll go for 250,000 miles+ without a rebuild, and make similar if not more power...also tuning them is less of a farce not needing chips or finding cylinder heads that haven't been skimmed to within an inch of their lives.

Probably best not to quote the reply about the electric engine when making your comment then. biggrin

Yep those mighty Saabs used to give the YB cossies a run for their money in the 80s BTCC races didn't they! and trounced them on all the rally stages at the same time.

How many Saabs won the 24 hrs at Spa with over 550bhp to play with from essentially a Cortina engine!

I quite like the idea of a Ferrari 355 fitted with a 550 bhp 612 v12 engine and clothed in a nice lightweight carbon kevlar F40 LM body, but who would be daft enough to do something like that!

The problem with this thread is that we all (me included) want to have this for £4,999.95 or less.
None of us is going to pay £90k for an MX5 with an MGB body (as an example).

I'm afraid that unless you have the wherewithal to DIY, this sort of thing will remain the province of the very wealthy and/or the very talented.

Doesn't stop them being cool as f*** though (IMHO)

Dunno if any of you watch Roadkill on Youtube? They stripped down an 84 Corvette to basically a roll cage and floor pan. Just a go-cart with a small block in it. It is now my most dreamed about vehicle!
