I've been mulling over a TA-22 Celica with the running gear from a Lexus IS200.

Nothing spectacularly powerful but it'd look good and sound nice.
You could fix that with the guts out of an IS350!

VW and Porsche did have a dabble with this - pre 964 but interesting none the less.

I remember reading about it in CAR Magazine at the time

A friend of mine built a lovely Mk2 Escort with a Honda S2000 powertrain (which has been done a few times).

It was this one I believe:

Mk4 Cortina with a lovely big V8 (was thinking LSx but might as well keep it Ford) with updated brakes and running gear. And a skull gear knob.

There's a classic Range Rover with an Aston Martin DB9 V12 running it.
Saw it at the CLA game fair in 2014, looked fantastic.

Have a picture somewhere but can't find it at the moment, think it was made by a company called heritage or something?

Here it is!

Bishops is the name of the company.

Which new engine would best suit a 205 GTi?
I think what Pug1off do getting 200 bhp from the old GTi-6 engine is pretty good. If I were to have a second one I think I'd definitely look at ways to modernise it to make it more suitable for long trips.

Requires a lot of work but the 206 GTI 180 engine in factory tune with the nice exhaust would have good manners etc.

Great topic. Although not the greatest engine the Nissan 370Z V6 in the back of my Clio V6 would be interesting!

Hello Dom!
The EW has been fitted but height of it and electronics arenas arse!
Hey buddy - we need some sort of reunion of the good old days!

I thought I remembered Sandy doing one or talking about it but that will have probably been 10 years ago! Those 206s are so cheap!

A bit like the one-off Micra thing that Nissan created?

EVO ran it in their Fast Fleet for a while, a few years ago. It looked bonkers.
I remember that car. I do love a mid engine hatch. Was that a 3.7 or the earlier, 350Z 3.5? But, yes, that's the idea. Maybe coax 400bhp from it as opposed to the 230bhp I have now!

Another classic I'd like is something like a classic (60s) Rolls or Bentley with the S85 V10.

A Fiat 500 late 60's with a modern TwinAir engine in the back..
Hmm, having had two that used to terrify with 20 ish bhp, not sure 105 bhp is a great idea biggrin

A 500 has plenty with an increase to 30 or not much more bhp, some niceties like electronic ignition, syncro box from a 126 and disk brakes at the front, enough power to make it keep up with modern traffic without giving it 210 bhp per tonne on 125 section tyres, plus the Twinair is water cooled so would have to plumb all that in, would be additional weight.

I know people do 500s with bigger engines but by and large its a small increase or it is a car with a spaceframe and a 500 silhouette.

Would be great with a full on engineering solution, but putting a powerful engine in one is death and terror.

The new Fiat 124, which seems to resemble the original so well, fitted with the twin turbo V6 from the new Alfa Guilia. It's a 90 degree V6 so it might be too wide to fit the engine bay.

Or perhaps Alfa's own C4 with this new V6 twin turbo tucked in the back. Maybe that's the basis for the new Dino that's promised.

Winner I think. That was the last good looking Citroen in a long time! Reminds me of Lamboghini of the same era

+1, that is utterly amazing. I dread to think how much that cost (in cash and man hours).

One of these with an MX5 BBR engine (235bhp) would be ideal for a little country lane blast

The 4.7L V8 from the Shelby Cobra Daytona in a Toyota 2000 GT would be quite dreamy for me. I'd probably even kill for it.

I get the idea, but in reality, it doesn't take that much money or effort to get an original 20v ur quattro 5 pot to match or exceed the output of the TTRS engine. The old 5 pot can be tuned to whatever level almost you want, it's just how much money you want to through at it.
