I get the idea, but in reality, it doesn't take that much money or effort to get an original 20v ur quattro 5 pot to match or exceed the output of the TTRS engine. The old 5 pot can be tuned to whatever level almost you want, it's just how much money you want to through at it.
and the new 2.5 doesnt quite sound as good as the old 20v either but that companies reasoning was a stronger powerband and the main one being engine availability.

I'd love to see someone do a baby Elan with something like the MX5's lump in it. There's a few DIY Ford Zetec conversions out there but as far as I know, no companies do complete turn-key modernisation packages.
I believe Spyder Engineering will do the job for you if you have the cash.

I believe that the new engine is much lighter. Which is nice.

GT6 was the first one that popped into my head when I read the topic title. Engine bay looks like it might be restricted to a 4-pot of some sort though so likely an MX5 lump.
That's a TR6 not a GT6

The 4.7L V8 from the Shelby Cobra Daytona in a Toyota 2000 GT would be quite dreamy for me. I'd probably even kill for it.

Why though? The Shelby Daytona is arguably as pretty as the 2000GT, actually, you have given me my answer:-

A Shelby Daytona Coupe with all the modern running gear and engine from the Ford GT:-

I would have this car custom made from the ground up if I won the Euro Millions.

Would love an E30 with Sport bodykit and BBS rims running modern 2.0d engine and transmission for commuter duties. At not much over a ton it would be nippy and fuel efficient.

Equally, would love to remake my dad's Elan with some modern upgrades, nothing too lairy engine wise, probably a 4AGE Toyota engine or similar.

Because I personally prefer the GT, but would love it to have a more atmospheric engine. Though there's no denying that the Daytona is quite beautiful in it's own right.

If a lottery win came my way.. then this.

I challenge anyone to find a cooler car. The things I'd do to own this.

So many possibilities!

I do like the idea of a Porsche 904 GTS with a GT3 motor...

Or a Chevron B8 with an S2000 lump in the back...

Or a 240Z with a revvy NA modernish 6-Cyl motor. cloud9

I think Fran Hall (Race Car Replicas - RCR) may have done exactly that with a 904 GT3 (albeit a (very high quality) reproduction.

I also think the Chevron B8 has been 'updated' with modern running gear and is being sold by someone. Name escapes me but I'm sure a search on here will bring it up.

Maybe it was Chevron (or the name has been bought) themselves?

with one of these longitudinally under the bonnet

please!

And probable some drivelibe/suspension fettling to deal with the extra weight and twice the original power.

Yep! cloud9

Saw a guy who had built a 24v 3.0 into a lowered GTV6 shell, had a proper euro-muscle vibe to it.

I can see where your coming from, but that's not correct. The engine is not British.
