So it appears a semi local dealer actually has one of these in.

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...

I'm going to give them a call and see if I can try it. I'll be honest and tell them I'm not in a position to buy yet (have a lease) but this is way up there on the list for when it goes back.

As per my previous post. Didn't get around to booking a drive in the 280 but took out a 220 Sportline estate today.

It was quicker than I thought it would be, nice engine note when pressing on, the interior is lovely too. Comedy large finance quote from the dealer but I specced one up to 38k on coast2coast and they popped out a quote of just over 30k nearly 8k off.

Definitely on the shortlist!

Such a great looking car in the Sportline versions, and ticks all of my boxes. A likely contender for when my Mk3 Octavia vRS Estate (75k) has it’s day. There are only a handful of these for sale used at the moment.

One thing you cannot emphasise enough about the Superb is how spacious the interior is. It feels like wafting around in a living room - especially in the back seats.
It's massively spacious. And I'm comparing it to a E Class estate.

I can't understand why anyone would be put off by the 'Skoda' image thing.
Because up to this generation of Skodas their interiors were, well, rubbish. Even so-called Superb.
Skoda and Seat have VW/Audi interiors from a few generations back, which means its only this gen (and to certain extent previous gen) they have interiors you actually want to be in.

Agreed. We had a load of fleet octavias and the seats gave me and a few colleagues crippling backache for days after a 2 hour drive, god knows how minicabbers tolerate them. Worst seats of any car I've ever used, including the ones like broken camp beds in my 92 Clio.

The car could quite literally be given to me for free and I wouldn't want it with those seats!

Seats are highly subjective though - so much depends on the exact shape and size of the person using them.

To be fair, my Mk3 Octavia has far better seats than the Mk2.

I can vouch for horrible seats in the Mk3 Octavia. Just recently I've started a 160mile round trip and already signed up to a Chiropractor for the first time in years (despite having driven for thousands of miles in dozens of cars from a 205gti to Range Rovers.

Objectively the Octavia met every requirement of mine. Subjectively however, it's probably the worst car I've been in.

Yesterday I tried out a Kodiaq and discovered they have EXACTLY the same seats as the Octavia (along with the abysmal lumbar support).

How are the seats in a Superb, anyone with first hand experience?

I have a Mk3 Octavia and had a Mk2 Superb before and havent had an issue with the seats in either. Think as someone else said it depends very much on body shape

I have a 2017 Superb L&K and find the seats perfectly fine (having come from a Discovery), have done 4 hour trips with no problem at all.

The problem is that you cannot find out if the seats don't work for you unless you drive for a good couple of hours, something you can rarely do on a test drive. The Skoda was very good by every other metric, I don't know what I'd do if I'd just bought one or signed up for three years in one and then discovered I couldn't drive it for more than an hour without back pain that lasted for days.

First car among dozens of vehicles that I've used for long trips that has done this though, and it wasn't just me who refused to use them after the first couple of months. They may not be a bad fit for everyone, but they certainly seem to cause problems for more people than most other cars.

Regular model, "Greenline" or some other rep spec thing. It was otherwise a perfectly good car.

Buy some vRS seats and retrofit them? (Or other seats of your choosing?)

They're very different to the lower trim level seats. They're not as good as Saab or Volvo seats, but they are better than most for my body shape. (6'1" and too many pies.)

Seems a shame to pass up a car you want for the sake of an easily interchangeable part like a seat.

Could be the VRS seats are better and hence I have never had the issues with them

I have absolutely no issues at all with the seats in my 2009 Superb, have driven 5-6 hours in one go in them before thanks to traffic issues before and not become uncomfortable at all.

I believe the "SE Sport" trim cars also have the same seats as the VRS from the factory.

I can't imagine ever wanting a "Greenline" spec Skoda Octavia badly enough to buy one and then trawl breakers/eBay to find some better seats, go through the effort of fitting them (hopefully without screwing up any seat mounted airbags), and then get rid of your old horrible seats that presumably have absolutely zero 2nd hand value hehe

It's the sort of car you only have if you're given one from work, pick one up at the airport, or buy one at 5 years old for tuppence. If you don't like the seats you just go and buy one of the equally capable but forgettable equivalents from one of the other fifteen companies who sell such things.
