One thing you cannot emphasise enough about the Superb is how spacious the interior is. It feels like wafting around in a living room - especially in the back seats.

Looked at one of these at the weekend. Looking at the 220 2.0t or the 1.4 ACT - both with DSG.

The car is huge which should cover me for a while - normally keep my cars 5 years anyway.

I'm a fan too but if I was to buy one a few years down the road its have to come with the ZF8 and not DSG
It'll never happen. The ZF8 isn't available in transverse installations, plus the DQ250 DSG box actually suits the car really well.
Never thought about that.. But if the ZF9 is that's what I'd want.

Suit the car well, and long term reliability should be better.

I really enjoy my Superb, despite it being a bland TDi it is at least the 170hp variant.

Comfort, and space. so much space. Myself and 4 other people my size can travel without being on top of each other or legs around our ears.

Had a look around the new one whilst mine was in for some work last week and its a very nice place to be as well, and not just "for a Skoda" it is just very pleasant inside.

As has been said, second hand, these are going to be excellent value

Definitely like the look of this. Nothing has quiet hit the spot since I pensioned off my 9-5 Aero. Another tight fisted punter who'll wait for a 3-5 yr old on though.

Presumably the gearbox and 4WD systems are well known VAG units, if so does anyone know how well they stand up to a remap?

I like to get my planning in early, four or five years early wink

I'm not sure you'll get much by remapping a mainstream engine which is already putting out 140bhp/litre?

Lovely. Skoda seem to be slotting in nicely to take the focus off VW and its associated bad image due to dieselgate.

Ive just bought a Skoda and the kit, fit and finish is fantastic. With some strong engines in the lineup this will really help the brand imho

The mechanical bits of the drivetrain are the same as those in the S3 and Golf R, so any tuning applicable to those would also apply here.

Most tuners seem to be able to get about 350bhp with a remap alone.

Agreed we have a Yeti L & K and it's a very nice well built bit of kit!

I'm also one of the crazy ones that bought new.... Why ? Because I like new cars :-)

Don't care about depreciation because when I sell it will be classic status....

It's great fun.... Not in the same way as a TVR etc but in its own way.

Very comfy and handling isn't too bad. I don't have DCC.

6 Months on I have no regrets.

Silly question - maybe not a 'Pistonheads' question, but I heard somewhere that the gearing was really short and as a result, the 280 4x4 drank fuel! How are you getting on? Would love one for my motorway commute to replace my BMW 125i!

This ia one of my favourite new cars at the moment. I'd still have an Insignia VXR instead though.

I know you are asking the 280 owners above, but as someone who has the 220 version and posted earlier in the thread:

The 280 and 220 both have a 6 speed wet clutch DSG but the former has shorter gearing, yes. The 220 has slightly longer gearing for better economy (I forget the ratios off the top of my head, but I can look them up on Briskoda if you want), but it's still quite decent off the mark.

My 220 gives about 25-30mpg on very short urban runs, 35-38 mpg more generally pottering about, with 43-45 possible on a motorway run without trying too hard. The 280 owners on Briskoda generally list late 20s to a tank and mid 30s on a run. Hope that helps.

Lovely!

Sat in a previous model Superb while in Autostadt in Wolfsburg ~6 years back, the memory of a sea of space remains. I cant help but think all those people buying Audi Passats, A6s and 520ds are idiots.

And 280hp and 4x4 makes it quite quick i would imagine, and the 350hp tune mentioned above... very nice!

Yeah as above... I've not been checking the mpg though. I only do around 7k a year so I'm not really bothered.

I looked at these a few months ago but found the seats not particularly comfortable. I see the new sportline spec comes with some high backed sports seats so I might go back to the dealer to see if these seats are any better.
