Not sure about that, but put some less shouty wheels on it and I reckon it could work well.

A friend modified his estate to 370hp with just bolt ons and has done the quarter of a mile in 12.5s, 60mph in 4.2s and 100mph in 10s.
Along with some eibach lowering springs and a few more mods he has the perfect sleeper. All the parts from the Golf R and S3 fit like a glove. Advantage of being part of the VAG group.

May follow suit if I still have mine in 3 years time when the warranty runs out.

As a couple of other posters have said, I find this a really odd combination of engine and car. The character of the Superb seems much better suited to a 3.0 derv or torquey petrol V6 than a hot hatch powerplant.

That said, I think the new Superb is... well... superb. Fair play to Skoda for turning out a cracking base car and then having the nerve to stick a quick engine in it.

I think that's the whole point of the car - its a powerful car with smaller, high output engine that will be lower to tax, run and maintain. Big lumps and Diseasels are of limited appeal these days

I know sleeper must be discreet, but this goes well beyond that, past boring and well into wallpaper paste bland territory. Shame.
That's precisely the point. Most people are bored into not noticing.

It's like the anti-Civic Type R.

That said, if I had the funds for a discreet fast VAG car, then mine's a Leon Cupra ST with the badges removed. Lighter, still spacious and cheaper... for now, at any rate. Whether it stays cheaper second hand remains to be seen.
Problem is you'd have to live with the damn thing and every time I'd see this bland, generic, passat-like exterior I'd loose all my will do drive it, let alone enjoy it.
There is a middle ground between shouty (Civic) and bland (this Skoda) and that's where You and I are looking for a sleeper.
You don't have to look at it when you're in it, driving the thing. smile Anyway, it's no oil painting but it's not willfully offensive like some. (For example, I suspect the latest Prius designers were drinking engine coolant and sniffing paint fumes before they started work...)

Q car, not a sleeper.

Depends where you come from:
"A sleeper (US English) or Q-car (British English) is a car that has high performance and an unassuming exterior."

True enough, so this is a question of how inviting the interior is. Still, I'd see it in front of my house and that would be enough to put me off I think.
This is not offensive or ugly. It's simply bland, that's all.
At any rate, the question is academic. I'm not going to buy one new and hardly anyone will buy it so there will be none for me to buy as second hand in a few years.

Prius designers I think invented a new drug or mixed most existing ones into one mindfk of a cocktail before they started working.

Apologies if I've missed this, but what wheels does the 280 one drive? The white one above looks great.

Nothing wrong with its looks IMHO, some photos I took, a few with a B7 Rs4 and with an Octavia VRS

The 280 is AWD, using the same Gen 5 Haldex setup as the Golf R and S3.

Lovely!

Sat in a previous model Superb while in Autostadt in Wolfsburg ~6 years back, the memory of a sea of space remains. I cant help but think all those people buying Audi Passats, A6s and 520ds are idiots.

And 280hp and 4x4 makes it quite quick i would imagine, and the 350hp tune mentioned above... very nice!
Sorry bit late to the party here.

We own a previous gen 170bhp Superb Estate (2010) and a 2007 e61 530D. The Skoda is mahoosive and acres amount of space, delivers nearly twice the fuel economy, and our tall teenagers prefer to travel in the Skoda.
The Skoda is truly excellent but the BMW does feel a better quality car. The leather in the BMW is infinitely better and there are other almost unquantifiable differences. We bought them used but the new price on their respective specifications was £54k for the BMW and £34k for the Skoda but the BMW has a much bigger engine and probably c. £10k accounts for this bigger engine. Is the BMW better? Yes, it is a better car but is it 10k better? Sometimes I think so, sometimes I don't.

When we do change up, we will probably change like for like approximately (although he is hankering after an M5 Touring......)

Interestingly, looks like they have some headroom with the E888. They are running that thing stock with 220 (GTI, Octavia) to 290+ (Leon, Golf R) PS and some high profile German tuning shops (including Abt, pretty close to VAG) list possible gains between 50 and 70 PS and roughly 430 Nm optimized.

It's just software as well. Assume since it has direct injection there is enough leeway with the stock stuff for getting fuel into it. 98 octane maps though.

But not sure I would bother on the Superb. It's not a sports car, does not want to be one, already has enough power as is. More fun/appropriate to turn a modest VRs Octi or Leon into something a bit quicker...
I'm quite a fan of the engine myself I have one in my DD VRS Octavia , its quiet and torquey and still delivers good economy , its entertaining enough when pushed, of course noise is not high on the manufacturers agenda seeing that its a family car

I dyno'ed my stock VRS (220) on a Dyno Dynamics dyno and it made 242hp I'm expecting north of 300 after a remap

Agreed - the E61 5er and my previous Passat / A6 have very cramped rear seats in comparison.

The Superb is in a league with LWB luxury cars for rear space.

I wouldn't be able to bring myself to take 40 to 60 percent value hit in the first two to three years, that's the first problem.
Second problem is that is that they want 35k+ for a Skoda.

VW and Seat have 300 and 280 stock from that engine so you'll get it. Basic Revo remap for 280 bhp version sees I think 320 bhp.
The problem is only the 230 bhp version of the VRS have VAG's magic diff, so the question is - how will your Skoda handle and drive with 300 hp through the front wheels?
I'd hazard an guess somewhere in the realms of "now very well".
