Ouch frown I guess that explains why every other car in Turkey is a Renault 12?

the Renault 12's are nearly gone completely.

It was way worse 5-6 years ago. Then came the TUV and a lot of cars had to be taken of the road because they were not safe....

Nowadays we still have a lot of Renaults here, but rather Clios and Fluences.

I suppose you have to take the good with the bad, I mean the cars themselves are expensive, yes. There is no denying that.

But take my Alfa for example, ı have just had the following done at an Alfa service:

All belts
all tensioners,
spark plugs
Engine oil
transmission oil
Selespeed (sequential gearbox) oil
clutch

All this ( plus some minor bits and bobs) for 2200 Lira. So basically 550 pounds. Cant beat that.

If you have Clios you have the basis of a great PH car. Find a 172 or get an engine from one swapped into a base model. Forget badge snobbery. For a limited budget older hot hatches will be great fun.

I drove one of those as a hire car once when I needed to get a car urgently and that was all they had available at the local car hire place. Not sure if this is normal for all Clios but it felt like it was made out of tin and would be horrendous in a crash, you could actually hear a hollow echo in the car when you closed the doors. I've been in taxi's which felt the same so this wasn't one of either.

What's worse is it actually tried to kill me when it attempted to swap ends on a fairly gentle sweeping curve for no apparent reason that I could fathom.

I couldn't wait to hand it back, they should all be killed with fire as far as I am concerned.
