I ordered from them last week and had the same, they won't give me an order number as they claim the "terms holders no longer release them". Instead, they've assured me they will provide an update every two weeks. I'm guessing I'm looking at early October for delivery.

Lets see how this pans out....

Depends if you plan on crashing it :-)

If it is written off and you are deemed at fault, or possibly partly at fault, then GAP insurance would protect you against any insurance shortfall.

GAP isn't expensive if you don't buy it from a dealer. I had a quote from a dealer of £500 ish for GAP.

Got a quote from directgap for £109 for 2 years unlimited cover for a Golf R estate.
