... I'd rather have the lowest initial rental possible so that for whatever reason, if circumstances change and you need to cancel, or the car is written off in the second month, you haven't paid a massive amount already.

The thread with the stolen Golf R springs to mind, voiding the lease contract and meaning the Golf extremely expensive over the few months the guy had it because it was a 9+ lease (if IRC).
I think you're likely to be scrwed if you try to cancel, regardless of the initial payment. And I *think* some of the GAP insurers are looking at ways to cover the initial rental. Do you have a link to the stolen Golf R thing? - I couldn't find it.

I think you can often negotiate a lower initial payment and higher monthlies. The headline "£99/month" figure is usually just a sucker-trap, anyway.

If you have to cancel you absolutely will be bent over a barrel.

A lease is a commitment you need to be sure you can see through. Most leases from the VW Group will cost between half and 2/3rds of the remaining payments to cancel.

So if you do think it might be a chance you might cancel, having the lowest monthly payment is actually best.

Depends on T+Cs, I think you would lose any admin fee and probably have a cancellation fee on top.

I don't have a link but it was a big thread, someone else might have.

Kind Regards

That's very generous? All my leases (BMWFS and MBFS) (and terms of other leases I have read) have stipulated 100% of remaining payments to be made to cancel. Then after they've sold the car any surplus over the sale value v the "anticipated" value at the end of the lease will be returned to you.

But they won't tell you the "anticipated" value up front, it's up to their discretion!

Also, it will be punted into an auction with minimal prep so is unlikely to achieve anything like the forecourt retail price.

If that's a 9+23 8k/yr deal then it's the same as the standard 6+23 being offered by BMW dealers @ £829.

Do you mean sub £100 averaged out or sub £100 after a hefty initial deposit? 2 completely different things...

I think you may get Citroen C1's or Aygos for under £100

Here is what I have went for, yes it's a fair bit more than £100 a month but it's a pretty good deal if you just want a run around.

Fiesta 'ST-line' 1 litre Ecoboost
3dr, Manual, 10K per annum (free metallic paint)
1+23 @ £144.64 pcm
£300 admin fee

I think the 8K per annum was roughly a tenner less a month, don't know about 5K.

Having bought one when they first came out (and hence less discounts about), I can assure you it isn't a £66K car smile I had no problems knocking >20% off base price and significantly more where options were involved.

The lease deal was still a good deal of course. Just pointing out most RRP's are inflated, but some are inflated even more smile
Which also applies to Audi, so it's all relative.

SQ5, 10k, 6+35 £370+VAT

http://www.carleasingsolutions.co.uk/business-leas...
Thanks for sharing this one. SQ5 is a funny one - it's end of life, new Q5 shape due this year. So would love to see a dealworthy lease if they have stock to shift. But it's a PH compromise along the following lines...

Good: 3.0 BiTDI quattro powwaaaaaa
Bad: live without Nav or drop £1.6k on MMI. Let alone any other options which you can get much cheaper on a non-Audi eg. lane assist or auto brake or whatever.

If you have your heart set on a German chelsea tractor, I think it's worth considering. If you need to add Nav or you'd be frustrated that it'll be the "old model" imminently, then don't.

Personally, I've had a Q5 for 24hrs and I can see why it's popular, but I was ultimately underhelmed. I think Audi have a particularly stingy spec for the Q5 range. And inserting their new "Plus" models (S-Line Plus and SQ5 Plus) is further taking the wee-wee.
