do you know how much the labour was for the bearings and bolts?

Tempted to get the same done @ CPC myself for my M3.
The labour estimate the new owner sent me (this was for the timing chain as well) was 15 hours at £70/hour. Rod bearings on their own would be a good bit less.
That's a fair old wedge. Thanks for the info.

What does a minor service on something like my 981 cost at the OPC?

Still, the biggest stumbling block is the rates being charged, even on a farm near Sevenoaks in Kent...
Seems a certain Lotus/Classic specialist does very well from just such a location not far from there so don't give up hope !

Which i think is reasonable if i get to drive a nice car too.

when opc leicester had my 944 for 3 days i loved blatting around in a new boxster s. I'm happy to factor that into the pricing too.
What would happen say if I ended up on a Track in OPC's loaner Boxster? Dont answer that. I know what would happen. What would happen if I bent their loaner Boxster on a Track?

I wouldn't want to be paying those prices, so I'd hope to get them down on that!
Personally, I'd do an annual oil change and get the brake fluid done outside of the OPC, too.

It's a lot of work to be fair and they do that stuff all the time so it'll be about as quick as is possible.

A friend had his '7.2 4S in for some work and he got a Peugeot Estate!,
(feels a bit pedantic with the whole 997 blah I'd blah second generation etc. but i suppose the point is it's quite a new car)

Supersport

Super 7

Don't think I'll be able to stretch to an R so is anybody (Jeremy/Ben?) able to advise what the benefits of an R are over the two examples above, for example, please?

Thanks thumbup

I'm still hankering after an original x5. They feel almost e39 like. I just don't need another car.

I've always thought an E53 X5 with the bonkers 4.8iS engine in either Imola Red or Estoril Blue would look and drive great.... I just could never see myself in one.

I liked my E53, it just felt a bit fragile. Preferred it to my E70.

That Super 7 is almost a K Series R400/Superlight R in everything but name. You miss out on carbon wings and nosecone (and possibly the wheels) but otherwise looks an interesting car.

The Supersport is much further away from an 'R' in specification. Apart from the obvious engine differences (and lack of dry sump) it isn't clear whether it has the widetrack front suspension (I'd have expected them to mention it in the details if it had).

In summary: buy the blue Super 7. thumbup

I couldn't have one without the 4.8 engine. It hustles my e61 along just fine but I'd guess the extra lard of the x5 would make it a tiny bit slower.

yes I don't know the exact specs of all the different cars but that blue one looks pretty damn fine to me. 190bhp K series is (in those I've experienced anyway) an absolute screamer of an engine too. I know plenty moan about HGF but I love the sound and feel of those engines at full chat.

The 4.8is badge has always seemed a good thing!!

I'm fairly sure there was somebody on PH who had had a couple new and he was strongly of the view that the engines are not all the same. A good one being a wonderful thing but a duff one rubbish.

I don't think I've ever driven an x5. If I was in the market I think I'd prefer a supercharged full fat Range Rover. No idea how they compare in price though.

Thanks. Useful info Jeremy. I have been around the block mentally on what to buy and my reasoning behind it and a 7 seems like the sensible choice.
But if I miss the blue one it is wide track front, dry sump 1.6, 6 speed, LSD and anything else is a positive.

ETC 1.8 to 1.6 because I can't read an advert.

The first time I saw/ heard a 4.8is I was looking around the car park for a muscle car! Sounded great.
