Has the same CF interior and manual shifter, correct colour and year ...

Why so cheap? I absolutely love the DB7 shape, it is a V12, Manuel and yet is it a question of the sum being lesser than the parts?
Curious, isn't it? What would the competition be at the time/now?

BMW 850, Jag XKR, Ferrari 550.....

I'm really struggling with my next car, it will be weekend use only but needs to be a 2+2 at a minimum for my little girl.. I'd decided I wanted something turbocharged for a change, I don't think any modern (Megane RS250 was an initial choice) would be special or enough of an occassion. 10kish budget..

Given it's going to be sat quite a lot I can't really go for something temperamental. Doesn't needto handle like my Integra did, just hopefully have that different/special feel.

Current thoughts, all of which are for sale at the moment:

First choice, if it were going to be relatively reliable and could get a good one in my budget (since they've double in a couple of years) would be a HF Turbo.

Any thoughts?

If you're willing to splash a bit more cash (>£375, that is), then this one looks good. 37k mile. £800.

That's one I've seen recently, young lady driver. Looks like it has been snapped up by a local dealer and doubled in price.

That has all sorts of good things going on with it. Looks like there will be at least one E36 in our convoy down to the Eifel Rallye next summer, a late '99 Dakar Evo

yes
From a couple of quick drives years ago I remember them being great. Not much room inside was the only bad thing I remember.

For £20k-ish, they seem an absolute bargain.

It's a travesty that we lost SAAB.

Of those I would say:

Celica best bet for trouble free motoring.
Delta most charismatic / problematic
924 next most satisfying and very good looking but will have niggles
As will the 900 but equally cool. (My experience of 900 turbos are of horrible gearboxes)

My money would probably go 924 as it's such a pure shape but no bad cars there!

Just my 2p smile

Article in octane a few months ago had v12 Aston against the 550. Not sure if it was that model Aston though.
Useful, I know.

It was a great shame, but at least some of their lovely history is still running. I'll agree with Crook though that they weren't the best at gearboxes, but they are chock-full of character. Would definitely be my pick from the above list, and I'd nearly prefer the rarity of the 2-dr to even a 3-dr Carlsson or Ruby

In other news, I've just been out for a quick weekend spin in my B5, and stumbled across a random RS5 owner doing the same, so put in a good few miles of driving in tandem before we went our separate ways. Sometimes makes it all the more enjoyable when things like that happen

I 'think' that was old shape Vanquish.

Spookily was reading September issue of Octane this morning with big DB feature and they test DB7 Vantage against DB9. Also mentions where upon launch of 6cyl DB7 Car Magazine tested it against the then current F355 where they praised the Aston at being a great all rounder.

I'm a big fan of the DB7 Vantage and GT models, stonkingly quick too.

^^^ That does look very nice, and I've never paid too much attention to them before. How do the likes of late-model 300ZXs and some of the earlier Supras and RX7s compare these days?

V12, manual, in a desirable body, not far off £20k, that is seriously tempting. But where's the obligatory engine pic?

I guess it has commensurate (to its purchase price) parts prices? £3k for a clutch etc. Annual maintenance budget in the four figures, etc.

That looks stunning, I'd not really considered the Starion. Top money for one though, but a rising tide lifts all boats I guess. Thanks for yours and Ferris' comments.

With regards the Saab 900s, I'd probably prefer a 3 to 2dr, maybe a Ruby, but they're all pretty scarce hence me posting that one. I'd even consider a 9000 Carlsson, despite their more staid looks, but finding a nice one for sale is impossible.

I need to sell my 130i first though, 2008 3dr, 91k, cheap (due to lack of servicing in early life and other bits and bobs).. If anyone's remotely interested.

2.8i Celica Supras are as rare as the Starion and from my quick bit of googling around the same money, 300ZXs are about a third: half the price and ZX-7s are seemingly all over the place.

A long time ago I was looking at three of the above cars: local garage said if I got a 7 not to take it to him, couldn't find a good enough / cheap enough Starion so spent all of my student loan on a narrow body 2.8i Toyota. From a guy in some part of London.
My older brother took me to see it /buy it in his mk2 3.0S Capri. We came back up the M1 from London two abreast. It was great! smile

When we parked up in the GRRC Members Car Park on the Friday at the Revival this year a totally standard grey 300ZX parked behind us, looked really good actually.

Spookliy a few cars along from us was an NSX

Followed an uprated one of these this morning and after driving a 3.6 (cab) I think I would. Not a cab though. Probably.
For God's sake.

This or a 987.1 S, what do we think?
