Ignoring the on/off brakes, in the short drive I had of an M2, I got the impression it could be a riot with a manual gearbox.

Ah. Suspected you might say that cmoose.

Well that's pissed on my chips. hehe
It's not perfect and granted that my E36 M3 was more fun to drive but.... as a daily the 'package' of the 1/240 is appealing. 9500 miles done in mine and it can get 50mpg on the commute and entertain enough to keep it interesting when needed!

I have come to hate any car with a thick rimmed steering wheel.

I miss my puma(s).
BMW seem to have lost the plot with this.

I have the non-sport wheel in mine, it's a lovely, delicate little thing.
I'm surprised how much i like the steering wheel in the S3.

Totally devoid of anything relating to steering feel but a fabulous daily car.

I recently got given a poverty-spec 1 series from our company's pool. The steering wheel is hideously thin, but it at least gives the impression of more communication and involvement. I've grown to like it.

I'd imagine quite similar to the golf.

Now I've had the cayman, I'm not sure I'd go back to a modern 'performance' car, maybe a mile muncher.
I wouldn't class the S3/Golf R as performance cars per se.

Superb all rounder, discreet and fast when you need it to be.

And superb heated pews.

So threadit's, where does your hypothetical 100k go for something fun these days?

For me it'd be either GT4, V12 Vantage or GT3 but interested in your thoughts?

There's 22K miles worth of sitting in the garage making "brrrrmmm, brrrmmm" noises. wink

And clearly you'd be looking for one with a proper gearbox ... drivingbiggrin

Huh! Did you really post that, it has no gear lever and lacks a pedal? smile

I have been following the ads, many private cars with no miles now offered at/near list, hoping to get out or flip now there doesn't appear to be a premium paid?

Thin?

Is at an M/M Sport thing? Have you ever driven a car with the steering wheels of the e46/39 sport? They're the best I've used.

It's a polar bear-friendly 116ed. the wheel is just round with constant diameter (no 'lumps' at 10 and 2). I briefly drove a 330ci and did enjoy that, I have to say.

First thing that popped into my head was one of these

although some hacker with a sense of humour seems to have added a 3 in front of the price.
