Good work. They're not the easiest thing to find, either!
Indeed. It doesn't have nav, but I've got xenons, bluetooth, logic7 and some other bits and pieces. I've changed theh interior ofr black leather and have replaced steering wheel and gear knob. Also now got 3 sets of 18" wheels for them if you need a spare set!

It would seem so! Mine's the Updated N52 lump, so the 258hp version. Its still lovely and smooth. I've had a couple of niggles to resolve, but nothing drastic. Arguably better than the 330d once higher mileage is reached as there is supposedly less to go wrong. Cooling systems csan be a little fragile mind you. Not sure mine's ever had it replaced though!

Seems to be missing some braaaahn. Is it in the interior? wink
Zero braaaaahhhhhnnnn unfortunately.

But it does have heated sports seats, PASM and the switchable PSE.

Which is nice.
I currently have a 981 but have been hankering after a glass window 986 like I had. The problem is this seems like madness. Anyway putting that to one side I am now thinking a gen 2 987 with the same engine as my 981 might be slightly less madness. So is that what this is?
Correct.
How are you finding it?

Did you look at many?

How does it compare to other cars you've had?
Never thought about a Boxster, been searching for the unicorn 997 for ages.

This one came up (previous owner is a well respected Porsche specialist)

Bought pretty much unseen through a trade contact but I knew it would be spot on.

Just had tyres and brakes all round - only thing I've had to do is gas up the aircon which is now ice cold.

I actually love it.

In other news my 335i has left the building. Had a fantastic 20 months and 24k miles with the car and naturally have pangs of sellers remorse from time to time. Still thinking about an F31 Alpina D3, but in the meantime have bought a smoker. Not quite bangernomics, but a 181k mile (with FBMWSH!) E91 330i. It's scrubbed up ok!

You certainly know how to find 'em!

Top work that man.

Was it a coupe?

Couple of 335i Touring on ebay now.
Nope. It was an LCI 335i Touring with a manual 'box. One of 15 apparently. Great car. Don't start me off again! smile
I don't think I've seen a manual 335i while browsing ebay. So was the LCI electric rack and your new one not - if so can you feel any difference?

You've had a succession of BMs, I reckon you should try a Boxster (e.g. 986 2.7 - reasonably modern & quick, less borky than the S). One thing about the couple of 997s I've driven is that they feel 'right', in terms of driving position, control layout/feel/weights etc - much more so than an Aston and couple of Ferraris I've had brief seat time in (and the C43 Merc I had). I expect the Box/Cay will be the same. Only an Elise has matched that natural feel for me.
I'd prefer a 987 but the ones with the better IMS bearing are pushing the budget a bit. I can get a 350Z or Z4 on around 50k miles for less.

Going to see a Z4 Si roadster tomorrow, only a 5 minute drive away so would be rude not to at least see what they're actually like. Need to get mine sold first before I can actually do anything though mind.

Wheel and tyre choice important on a Z4 IME.

Interesting because I've never heard of or seen an image of one before! But for me, I can't see a single thing about it that isn't beaten by a 'classic' Overfinch Range Rover.

Nope. As I understand it, the 335i was the only LCI E9* not to get the electric rack, so I dont really feel much difference. Apart from the Birds B3 suspension on the 330i which is sublime compared to the standard shocks and Eibach springs on my 335i.

Sad times. Quite like one of the Alpina B5's that's for sale at the moment though. That'd be a nice F10 to own.

For me the question is would you use it. If the answer is yes then buy it.

I know of a lovely E34 540iA touring going up for sale in the next few days if that would tickle your fancy.

I'm sure he's just gasping to get into an even older, rustier 5-series wink

What he said. Cheers though!

Took her for what's hopefully/sadly her last proper blast today. Worth leaving the house before dawn and you get the whole road from Kirriemuir to Grantown-on-Spey to yourself. Uninterrupted bliss.

Back to your dilemma...

If it's a two seater sports car you're after, then there really is no alternative to the Porsche 987 (almost) at any budget.

IMO, BMW's E86 Z4 was a compromised affair. Had it been built to a better budget, it could have been great, but as it was, it came off an American production line and utilised E30 bits an pieces.

The result was a terribly built, plasticky affair with go-kart damping; made even worse by the RFTs I gather. Mine was a Z4MC. It had all the ingredients of being absolutely great. But engine aside, it just wasn't.
