Decent appreciation, but the bills over the time add up to 40k plus.

Still, time and money very well spent
Sex.

I'm sure I've considered re-morgaging the kids to buy this one before. Did you sort of offer it for sale a while ago?

I wonder what the 10 year running costs of something more mundane would be - say, a Renault Laguna?
Probably quite reasonable in terms of repair costs - after all, you are unlikely to thrash it around the Evo Triangle and French clutter could surprise on the upside in terms of reliability - but you will do your nuts in terms of depreciation. I'd rather spend money fixing a car that brings smiles, than spent money on a depreciating daily snotter which sends me to sleep...

I remarked on many occasions that I could have kept a supercar on the road for the £3k my Grand Scenic cost me in its first eight months out of warranty. rage

Nice little video that, Elan Plus 2S is a great thing to drive and actually have semi usable rear seats too plus I think they look fab. Sold a few over the years and I think they are great value for money.

You would be quite wrong.

I know of a 2005 Megane which has cost over £1,500 to repair over the last 12 months (and various other issues year on year), whilst having a residual value now akin to a bag of revels. The perfect double whammy. It has had its last repair. Owner could have leased a brand new Skoda Yeti or similar for significantly less folding.

What is this wallet-assaulting Francophile, you ask; surely a 225 or Trophy or similar. Nope, a 1.5 diesel Scenic.

This is over and above routine servicing and consumables. It's a POS.

For you, too, JC - assuming you could remove the front seat and drive it from the rear, you gangly swine.

I did yeah. It has been for sale since September. Haven't really been in a rush, but the phone hasn't been ringing off the hook. Might be sold this week. It seems as though everyone wants a collector, rather than a sorted driver.

Is it just me or did there appear to be a lot more special/interesting cars (like those silver E30 M3's) just parked up on the back streets that made you stop and take a gands as you walked past.... back around 10 years or so ago? Not necessarily well cared for cars either, but not rough as a badgers arse either. The used look I suppose.

I fear it's all down to the crazy prices these cars now sell for.

nope, 100% correct - I used to live in Greenwich until 2008. Nice area, but nothing really special. On my street we had the following: 928GT, 911 3.0 Carrera, 356B, E30 M3, 635CSI, Morris Minor, Lotus Elan - like jcs, Renault 5 Turbo 2, 2 or 3 GTI 16v. All were used as a daily. Chances are, these are now all garage queens...

Glad it's not just me then!

Jesus the cars on that street are depressing as fk by contrast to what used to reside there. frown

In the summer of 1999 I bought an ex lease, 3 year old Mondeo for 5k. It was a 1.8lx auto with 60,000 miles on it. I traded it in in 5 years later for £250, with 162,000 miles on it.
I think I probably spent about £200 per year on it in servicing, tyres, MOT's etc.
It never broke down and nothing ever went wrong on it but then it was pretty basic. By the end it was pretty shagged but I loved that car, much more than you should for something so mundane

Has anyone seen a Polaris Slingshot?

I believe I was following one today. Yes in the cold weather this HERO was commuting in an open top 3 wheeler.

I'm guessing at the name. I googled ktm xbow 3 wheeler and this popped up. Looks like the thing I saw.
