Are the Porsche 986/996 pretty easy to bolt on, then?

not sure what prices are like in the UK but FVD in Germany were amazing prices for GT3 brakes.

e.g. 986 Boxster S brake disks for 80-90 Euros?
http://www.fvd.de/de/en/Porsche-0/2_7__180_kW-13-4...

I wonder what would removing all the seats and inserting a couple of buckets save in weight?
The Boxster S/996 C2/4 brake set up is bolt on and well developed. CSL front discs are needed, but they have come down in price of late.

As for the weight of the seats - my Z4MC seats were 45kg each and they had no lumbar or heating! I would imagine the M3 ones would be another couple of kg extra with heating and lumbar/bolster inflators. Swapping them for Recaro SPG or Cobra Suzuka would save 35kg each!

For a pure race/track car the E36 is actually the better platform as it is a lot easier/cheaper to take weight out of. E36s routinely go down to 1050kg dry weight. Getting an E46 M3 down there is a wallet busting exercise of gargantuan proportions. I speak from experience.

For what Joel wants, the E46 M3 is unbeatable. Only last week I parked "my" M3 next to a GT3-aeroed 996.1 in Greenwich Park. The 996 was a beater - mismatched tyres, dodgy tints, paint scrapes etc. Despite all this, the way prices have gone, it was a £12k car. Yet, "my" M3 is available for £8k...

Going to make a few calls today, wish me luck smile

Thanks for comments chaps. Cayman is getting a new clutch and flywheel on Monday, came to an agreement and I'm making a contribution to the flywheel, rather have it all done now one less thing to budget for/worry about later.

Then once Elise sold it's off to Centre Gravity for a set of Bilstein PSS9's, more negative front camber, maybe stiffer anti roll bars, set of Michelin pilot super sports, and i'll stick on the braided lines, yellow stuff pads, GT3 MC and see if I can keep up with all these modded E46 M3's and GT3's wink

sounds good. Is there an option of a lighter or single mass flywheel out there?

There is and I did think about it but seems to be mixed reviews regarding reliability and engine harmonics with single mass on this engine so I bottled it a bit tbh

I particularly like the fact that the alloys have been refurbed in straight silver and not diamond cut. Looks much better.

Manual, non-sunroof, carbon black over imola red leather, spot-on history.
They really do look a lot better in straight silver. Never seen them like that before, look great.

Great spec as well - my ideal spec actually. Well done, enjoy driving

I e never been a fan of diamond cut wheels. It just hides the shape and structure of the spoke. I'm e en having my Mclaren wheels redone in straight silver. I'll post up a before and after pic.

I'm the same, so many good alloy wheel designs are made worse by diamond cut or being black. Am looking forward to finally changing the black wheels on my car before the spring. Most likely going weiss gold.

Isn't it? Some minor fettling and I think I'd put that into service as a daily for the summer months.

You are clearly a man of taste. Here is my 928 with forged square set 928GT wheels which I had done in Weissgold.

Sorry, i meant you were hoping it was an auto, then even happier that it was a manual!
I think there was reverse psychology at play here... "Tell me that it is an auto, so then I will desire it less..."

That looks delicious. I was almost certain that I was going to (eventually) change my 987S for an E46 M3, but this looks so right.
