The Best ///M/Barge/General Rant/Look at this/O/T(Vol XVIII)
Discussion
Quick update for anyone interested! I'm taking a '12 plate competition pack M3 for a run tomorrow. I had a sniff around a lovely 997.2 C2S at Harbour cars on the way back from Goodwood MM on Sunday, and a 997.1 Turbo (both manuals) they've got. I'm also thinking about a 5 series tourer or X5 daily and going back to Caterham ownership! Got some serious thinking to do. I think the pork option is out, because it would be a daily that has to park on street on my commute (have to take a ferry).
Will keep you posted for those interested, but looking likely to be either M3, or daily plus a Caterham.
Members meeting was awesome as ever, but by jeebus that wind had a bite to it!!

Current owner has just spent a fortune on it at CPC so surprised to see it up.

They don't sound great IMHO (4C). Turbo + flappy paddles = flatulence rather than music.
It burbled past at walking pace in a very pleasing way, but not heard one "on-song"...I still (somewhat irrationally, probably) want an 8C Spider. The proportions just seem "right" to me...
I've been watching a few period videos on YouTube of R129s primarily as I've just bought one and the videos are excellent! They've got some fantastic "lawnmower man" bordering on "Terminator 2 "3D graphics that must have been state of the art at the time.
The videos show a few interesting things aside from being useful. The long VHS handbook supplement shows the production of the cars with a handful of guys each working on a single car. No assembly line finishing.
Women (power dressed naturally) make up a good proportion of the drivers which isn't odd now but 27 years ago would probably have raised an eyebrow or two.
Also the cars look so good in strong colours. Probably more normal in Beverly Hills than grey old Blighty but burgundy with matching leather looks great and a welcome change from silver over black.
One other thing is that they seem to go round corners faster than you would've thought.
Which is promising.

I went in the new cloverleaf.
The Giulia CL/QF?The lesser versions look quite good, and apparently drive well too.
As a new car is it valid?

I see what you mean about the graphics (though i didn't watch the whole thing). What did you buy? They're a handsome beast which still look good to my eyes.braddo said:

The graphics are great aren't they? Very much of their time.A '91 500. I've always liked them and so I thought "why not?"

Followed one on the road today... it was t-i-n-y ...!! Like a kid driving a toy on the adults road!
Had a great turn of speed though (I guess it doesn't weigh a lot), looked fantastic, and sounded good as well.

Less than 700Kg and surprising roomy inside. I'm 6'3" and there was plenty of space for me and a powerfully built friend on the way home from Goodwood. bungle said:

A car I never even knew existed, an E28 Alpina B7 Turbo/3.
