Flying up tomorrow to pick it up, insurance a very reasonable £311 with Adrian Flux all mods declared , spent £15 on a HPI check, I knew I was wasting my money as I was typing it out and I was, car is as straight as a die like the owner I'm more excited about picking this up than anything I've had in a while, 160bhp was a laugh so add another 40 on and it should add some fun

Apologies in advance for plastering my holiday over the internet but I have a few bits of V8ing to share from the land of the Cheeto.
Whilst waiting for my hire car to arrive from a different lot I heard the low burble of the mother of all V8s echoing in that great movie soundtrack way around the multi-storey.
This roles in to view before parking in the temptation area...
When I returned my rental on Friday they had multiplied. Not sure I'd want the liability as I suspect it's something of a red flag car but cool to see anyway.
My rental roles up and whilst no Hertz renta-racecar it was a V8 and I was looking forward to getting behind the wheel.
It's a 2017 model Camero SS with a 6.2 litre V8 and 455hp. 6.2!!! 455!!!
I've read up on it since and found it may have had HUD and other bits and bobs but what I can say is that the 4.1 second 0-62 time sounds about right. It fking hauls. It was mental.
As my first experience of a big yank motor i have to say I'm very impressed. But as a fuel conscious Englishman I was astounded that in 300 odd miles of town and highway driving it averaged 26mpg. (After 800 miles and some horrendous traffic it was at around 24) And that's their small gallons too. It has a system first presented on the Cadillac Polestar (iirc) that shuts half of the engine at low load so cruising at 80 and you can see 35mpg. That is insane. When you prod it though...
Our holiday took in a few local aspects including a trip out to see the local wildlife.
This is what they power their wildlife viewing platforms with and yes your eyes aren't deceiving you, it does say SUPERCHARGED.
It's an LS-A supercharged 6.2 putting out around 550 to 600hp. In an airboat. In a nature reserve. Unfortunately our ride was just an NA version but still amusing.
Two other notable V8 encounters were a Dodge Challenger SRT with a 6 speed that looked oh so good (no photo unfortunately) and this, which may have been my first spot of one in the wild
Looks better than you'd think in red.
Unfortunately the SS didn't have a happy ending, one of the many pieces of truck tyre that lie strewn about their highways flicked up and put paid to my fun
So I got an RS as a swap out. That's only the 355hp V6. Apart from my sadness at losing the V8 it was interesting to drive the cars back to back. In the same way that taking a hundred horsepower from the Panda 100hp would render the car useless, taking it from the Camaro does something similar. 2 cylinders makes a big difference.
The V6 isn't slow by any metric but it just seems to make such a song and dance about it. When you give it a bit of throttle with the V8 it goes, then you floor it and anything not strapped down just travels to the rear of the cabin. At 80 pressing the throttle gets a dropped gear, more awesome noise and a serious amount of pick up. Engaging kick down makes a lot more happen. It was pulling at 140 during a moment of overtaking like it was going from 60-80. What an engine.
Silver looked nice though. And the same frugality switching from 6 to 4 cylinders sees 40 plus mpg. Other practical considerations, when the roof is up you can get a full size samsonite hard case, large hold-all and flight bag in the trunk. And there is plenty of space inside too. Seats were comfy for four adults (when needed) with no complaints on an hour long drive
If you rent with hertz, join their gold club, it's free, but when you book pay with Amex as that gets their best discount rate I think. 9 days with the SS should have cost around £570ish. Not cheap but a bargain nonetheless.

Thanks. And yes, there are only three 2 door/ 4 seater current muscle cars and they are everywhere, it's either Challenger, Mustang or Camaro. That's it. The used market must be littered with the things. a previous generation 2015 Camaro z28 since seeing one in Evo car of the year and fast fleet, a septic take on a GT3 has real appeal.

Brief update on new old car:
50 mile drive back from dealer, who again sorted the last few bits as promised, very pleased with them.
You often read the phrases 'hewn from stone' and 'bank vault' or words to that effect when referring to old Mercs of this vintage and I now fully understand. It's a 26 year old open car and save for the creak from the rear undercarriage that developed and which I'm hoping is no more than a few bushes needing a bit of silicone spray as it's the first long drive in at least a year I think (optimism is key) and a bit of a drone, again from the stern at around 80+ which will be what it is... it was silent. The engine pulls smoothly and with just a whisp of V8 gently intruding into the cabin under acceleration. These things must have been something else when new.
It does however feel like an older car which is no bad thing and you can feel the steering pump working, maybe that will need replacing.
I've noticed a bit more paint work that needs tidying that I hadn't noticed, nothing terrible but it looks like someone has tried to clean the bonnet with a brillo pad in a couple of places :-/
Oh and the radio doesn't seem to be connected to the speakers or the aerial.
It's going in for a full going over on monday then unless it's a horrendous lemon, it will get all new fluids, plugs, filters etc. and a plan on how to bring it up to a more enjoyable state.
But as it stands I do like it and, fingers crossed, it will be a nice runabout for the summer.
When I've given it a bit of a clean I'll get a few pics up.

Went to school in Tuxford, grew up in North Muskham. The neighbour worked at the Sugar Beet factory in Newark, so on balance of probability, I'd say there were two around.Chaps, first time posting in this thread, but seems the most apt given I'm waiting on Alpina register approval and I recognise a few of the names from there in here. The family workhorse E39 run for 13 years of its 14 year life has reached the point of chucking money at it for the long haul (ABS ECU fault after all, indy was hoping a wheel speed sensor would fix it because that's what diagnostics threw up... and relieved us of some cash in the process). Looking at the work done so far cooling system hasn't needed doing yet, start of rust in usual places etc. My current thinking is rather than chucking that money on the 520, buy a nice B10 with the work done or chuck the fixing money at that instead for the long haul.
However, I know it's spring and anything remotely interesting these days seems to be priced in cuckoo land (done some digging on previous sales on the register) - E39 M5 asking prices on AT even moreso - what do we think of this silver 4.6 B10 http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2017... and blue 4.6 at Millenium Heroes: http://www.millenniumheroes.com/cars/alpina-b10-v8... ? A 3.3 would most likely suffice and be easier on the wallet (mostly at the pumps) but that would require a lot more travelling right now to just have a poke around - thoughts much appreciated!
