Didn't watch a great deal of the race due to various commitments but did sit through the last hour and a half. The dice between the Corvette and the two Astons was fantastic and Porsche's dogged pursuit paying off in the 24th hour. Great stuff. Genuinly gutted not to have been there this year.
Top car for me though was this 488. Should I ever be in a position to order a new Ferrari it will be green and have yellow lights in the middle of the nose.

Man maths / budget creep at its best... starting off today looking at £2k 106 GTIs, that crept to £4k Rallyes, which made me think I could get a 350z for that, which led to 370z, which led to a £50k 240z...

Now looking at Mustang V8s. Really don't know what I want.

Just looks like a barried XJS. Awful colourscheme, terrible wheels and doesn't have the full widebody kit nor the 7 litre to give it full Lister cool.As an aside the red FCF 3 car is a full jobby. #038LJ05LM
Nice looking ghibli cup at auction. How much are these worth and, indeed, are they 'worth' it?

I have one in that colour and year (interior is black/ivory leather with walnut inlay, that's what made my mind up, owned for two months-ish) but double the mileage. Generally are regarded as one of Jaguars more reliable motors, good looking, nice to be in and, with a bit of... brisk acceleration thrown in for good measure, I seem to average £61.50 for a weeks worth of Tesco's finest 99, brimmed, so an average of 26mpg over a weeks commute of about 305 miles (I'm not exactly in a hurry and the traffic isn't what you'd call heavy and not a great deal of town driving either).
Minor stuff to keep an eye on appears to be the earths for the lights, located in the front wheel wells, can corrode and a warning pops up, easy fix though (WD40'd mine as it was very minor corrosion worst comes to it re-tap them). Pedestrian impact sensors can fail (both of mine are glitching, cira £210 fitted at a local Jag specialist for the pair) and tyres on those 20" Senta alloys can be pricey (£274 fitted for the fronts on mine, it's going to be about £340 for the bigger rears).
Major stuff? Chain tensioners a possibility, I'm not sure when they started fitting the all metal versions to the 4.2 (the mk3 version of the tension design) but those fitted to the 4.2 in the old XK8 and the X3xx cars had plastic versions which had a tendency to disintegrate. The suspension struts can leak and because the CATS active damper system is in there they can be pricey to replace (according to what research I did it generally happens around the 60K mile mark).
Corrosion where the aluminum body is bolted on to the steel frame a possibility, majors dents could be pricey to fix due to the use of aluminum body panels. I will have missed stuff but the above is what I came across before I bought mine.
Just to add, the first thing I did was pull the fuse for the aerial so I could listen to music without it looking like a giant remote controlled car, what when through their minds sticking that thing on it?

Dad's got a 5.0 in the darker grey. Absolutely glorious thing.https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...
The sound on startup and under acceleration is worth every penny.
The change on the paddles is reasonably nippy and it'll go in to gear with little, if any, hesitation (the the only time it won't is if it detects the change would be bad for the box i.e. too high/low rev's it'll either not do it or drop/go up a cog) but then again I've got nothing to compare it against as it's my first auto box. It however doesn't seem to understand roundabouts so I drop it into third with the paddles on entry but other than that...

Whats the auto box like? Quick on the upchange with paddles? throttle blip etc?
Or just generic slush box...
The 'box is in keeping with the rest of the car - perfect GT, in no way scalpel sharp.Or just generic slush box...
I'd suggest that a 5.0 N/A V8 would be the pick of the range - the 4.2 always feels like it should be faster, anything with a blower drinks at a ridiculous rate.

I've just had the ZF 6 speed slusher in my BMW 550i serviced so new lube. It definitely feels a bit more spritely when shifting in sport mode. By no means quick compared to very modern boxes but for a slusher it is ok. Car is on 101k.
I assume that that wasn't done in a BMW garage though? Thinking about doing the same soon for my E61, ballpark price for the job?Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
