You can have one, and one only weekend / fun car... needs to be reasonably reliable, sound good, be naturally aspirated, budget £75k. What would you have?
996 GT3 Mk1 Manthey K400 £63,995 http://www.911virgin.com/porscheforsale/1079/996GT...
Plus set of BBS Le Mans and proper fast road setup by Centre Gravity or similar, rest on tyres, fuel etc...
Yeah, I'm leaning towards a 996 GT3. I love that black one. They sold that car a few months back and it was up at £67,995 IIRC so interesting to see it being offered a touch cheaper this time round.
Did anyone see how much 911V were asking for the red 996 Clubsport that is showing as sold?

That looks amazing, I'm trying so hard to resist calling about this car! With an E12 M535i currently in bits in my garage I'm fairly sure i don't need any more headaches in my life, but then again.... Seems like a great cost of entry given the general world of 'crazyprice' for anything remotely interesting.
I mean, what would an E28 with similar provenience/evidence of maintenance fetch?
A family saloon with ITB's...........mmmmmmm..........

However it's also well known that Gen 1 997's suffered the same problems and the Gen 2 997's were meant to address this, but on 997's there has been some talk of engine issues on the Gen 2 DFI...
Oh no really. I was dreaming of getting a gen 2 997 S next.://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=1650925

As a car to get a family to their holiday destination and then enjoy blats on the local roads, the E34 (and E28) M5s are probably the pinnacle. They seem to come at a cost though (not just monetary ).
Mrs Wife doesn't like BMWs or manual cars though, but may that's just as well, otherwise.... ... ... £££ ... Tada! ...
The Caymans look great by the way. Liking the ride height and rake.
Rocket, interesting what you say about the rear wheel spacers affecting the fun factor. I had a similar experience with my old Alfa where some 10mm spacers on the back made the appearance much better but it messed with the handling feel; it improved turn-in (has the effect of shortening the wheelbase) but the car just didn't feel 'right' in the corners. The shot of the car in my profile photo was when I experimented taking the spacers off at a Goodwood track day and suddenly (with the other minor suspension mods it had) it had this beautiful balance where you could enjoy having the car up on its toes all day long. I found it fascinating how a seemingly small change could really affect things.

When my 928 GTS is back in one piece, you can have my 996.1 CS K400 All I want is to raise enough cash by selling both to comfortably fund a LHD 991.2 GT3 6-spd Away from the above - a LHD 997.1 GT3 CS - job done...
In a departure from looking at Caymans I ventured into Z4Ms. But then I thought do you get (say) 80% of the fun of a Z4m for less than 50% of the price with a 3.0 si? Or even is the 3.0 more useable on the UK roads than the M equivalent?

If you're serious about a new GT3 I think pdk is the way to go. The 991 really is designed around the pdk drivetrain. They made a lot of changes to the R that aren't in the 991.2 GT3. My bet is that the pdk is the more coherent package.
Probably - but you know me well enough by now. A good manual box, and the R/GT3 one is an excellent one by all accounts, is hard to resist. Best thing about the whole idea is that I can walk into any OPC in Germany and order a car for a late 2018/19 delivery. No overs, no kissing the Principal's arsch, no buying 15 Cayennes, Panameras or Targa 4S that I don't really need. I hand over £143k equivalent and in return Porsche AG deliver me a car. Beautiful...
I'm actually seriously tempted to do the same (would depend on selling the mclaren). Main reason would be he car would be a keeper, would not st money and most importantly of all, I could pick the colour.
It would be "loud". PTS for sure, something from the Porsche back catalogue... arrow blue, maritime, carmine red, speed yellow? Mint green? So many great colours to choose from.

Great minds think alike and all that... Good thing you weren't with us at Spa for the 3hrs race. You would have still been in the pit lane, lost for words - there were so many beautiful classics in amazing colours. Any great Porsche colour you can think of - it was there. Shame the way cars have gone these days colour choice wise....It would be "loud". PTS for sure, something from the Porsche back catalogue... arrow blue, maritime, carmine red, speed yellow? Is the Lotus Cortina no. 144 a conservative estimate at £36-41k?
I like no 137 too, a 6.9 SEL. I'd love to have a go of one of these to see what they're like.
