I can see why. But, they can sound a bit rubbish.
At the Silverstone Classic on Saturday I found myself drawn inexplicably towards a C4 Corvette ZR1. 395bhp, V8, manual box. You'd obviously want to go more modern, but something with a bowtie could do you.

Is that based on experience of owning one? But, they can sound a bit rubbish.

A Viper with proper equal length headers and a nice exhaust sounds absolutely the mutts...
Phenomenal amount of car for the money....
Audi 200 Quattro Turbo
I have always desired a Audi Sport Quattro but the chances of affording one ever is pretty slim.
This 200 Quattro certainly looks the part "well in my view" and has great history.

Is it the equal length headers that would make it sound more V10 M5'ish and less truck like?
The Viper will always sound different from the V10 found in Lambos or BMWs because it is only a 20v and it has a different firing order. It actually sounds better at idle than a BMW V10 - I had an E61 M5, while my brother has a Gen 2 Viper, so we could compare... But you are right, at high revs the Bellanger headers help with the F1-like wail, so it does sound like a proper supercar. Still have pangs of regret for not buying my brother's car and going for a GT3 instead. There is a great HD clip of the mighty battle at the Ring between a Viper GT3 and a 997R during a VLN. It is amazing to watch how the two different chassis concepts - front mid-engined and rear-engined battle it out...L100NYY said:
That 200 Quattro is rather cool isn't it and £27k in 1989 made it a rather dear car!
I've always wanted a Pearlescent White Audi S4 ie of this shape....
I seem to recall that at one stage a 200 Turbo quattro Avant was slightly more expensive than a Ur Quattro 20vI've always wanted a Pearlescent White Audi S4 ie of this shape....
This is the one that really does it for me. Was also the first car wholly produced by quattro GmbH, so should have a 'UA' VIN number, rather than an 'AU' like most Ingolstadt Audis:
(Apologies in advance to those who aren't interested in this stuff, I really do need to keep my inner car nerd in check sometimes )

I remember an old Performance Car article where they tested the Viper GTS against the 993 GT2 and Justin Bell brought his own Viper along.
T'was epic.I think the Viper has an appeal but it would need to be a hardtop for me, preferably the ACR or an early GTS (stripes optional). The early coupes are more compact in the metal than expected (if still nerve-wrackingly wide for a left hooker).
Scho - I agree completely. To pay more than about £15k for a (non C4s / GT / Tubby) 996 seems madness and you'd certainly wan to be able to use a vanilla C2 everyday (otherwise what's the point, given much of the appeal of the 911 in all guises is usability). A nice 50-70k miles example that has been appropriately fettled is the sweet spot for me - spending more would require something suitably enhanced in the (admittedly highly subjective) "specialness" stakes.
