Cheb you need to hang on to it for at least another 1.25 years. That is when your mid life crisis will truly take hold. Right now - no offense intended - you are just pretending to be old.
No offense taken at all - what is a Mid Life Crisis supposed to bring? Except penchant for younger women I have always liked convertibles, but not enough for them to be my main car. Ok, I am lying - a SLS Roadster I could live with. Not a fan of spyder type cars. Big fan of V12 Ferraris, but now out of reach and definitely anti Mid Life Crisis as the "chicks don't dig 'em". The sad truth is that I spotted my first S-class AMG Coupe a couple of days ago and I fell in love with the design and sound. What is also worrying is that I am and I have always been a confirmed BMW-ista. However, of late, i8 excepted, there is not a single BMW design that I would like to own. Mercedes Benz on the other hand is definitely pulling on my heart strings... Am I growing old gracefully?! That was not part of the plan, I tell thee...

If we all bought cars on the basis of what "chicks dig", then sales of Citroen DS3s"that pretty blue one" would be surging.
EFA The 964 3.8RS is a wide bodied shell and one of 55, along with it's provenance and lack of use is why it made the big numbers.
There were nearly 2300 964 RS produced, which helps explain further the price differential.
Meadens 64RS is a nice car, I knew the previous owner and selling dealer, I would be amazed if either party took such a potential loss to the rices at that time for him to buy it for £19k, stranger things have happened on the internet though.

My memory is he paid £36k, which he thought was toppy at the time (especially for a left hooker) but that prices had started to turn.
I honestly thought he'd had to try to find the money, almost a remortgage or something, to buy it (hence me thinking £91k rather than £19k). Either way - I'm not sure why I mentioned it apart from the fact that I'd never have thought that RS's would rise quite that much (I know it's one of the rarer 3.8's that sold at RM but nevertheless - it can only be good for the other 'regular' RS's right?)Oi_Oi_Savaloy said:
Doesn't Mr Meaden (from Evo of course) own a 964 RS? Think I remember him paying £91,000 for it (which i thought was a lot!) a while back. Might be wrong of course - memory isn't what i thought it was. But look at that price! £700k+ plus buyers premium I guess.
15 years ago they were £35k and no one wanted them. Not that it really matters but I think it was in the £40's as I was looking at around the same time and came across a black LHD one at the 'ring. The owner quite fancied my CSL but wanted £20k and the M3 for a swap. I thought this put it at the top of values plus black didn't do it for me and RM to my memory paid similar.
In all honesty £40k wrapped up in a track car was too rich for my blood back then so I got the R26.R

Give it ten years and I think the early kettle GTs will be at similar money too. At this pace, I can see a 996 RS being worth seven digits.
Which means that now might be the time to get into a 996 '3 or '2 (an itch I've yet to scratch) and just lock it away somewhere.
Of course, the world could end tomorrow, making our 993 GT worth about 100 quid in scrap.
I tried to buy a 996 RS in 2011/12. I had to take a punt on some shares to afford it at about £60k at the time.Give it ten years and I think the early kettle GTs will be at similar money too. At this pace, I can see a 996 RS being worth seven digits.

Long story short, i didn't get my RS.
Only problem being some random got there first with a lowball offer and the dealer mistook this for being the chap he had been informed to deal with. Chappy got the car for a shade over £30k and all other parties shook their heads in disbelief.
Hi all been a while since I have been on the thread!
Could any m5 experts give me an opinion on this? Are they asking too much?

I know the heritage caramac and tree is not to everyone's taste but I love it! Must be getting old..
I am hopefully going to have a bit of spare cash to spend and I want a E39 m5 or a curve ball 500E
In other news having to have my MV fixed (again) under warranty and the dealer is right by silverstone - have stumbled across some club racing - 10 quid is a bargain to see some GT action!

Are they asking too much? Well that's a question which will remain unanswered until someone buys it.Could any m5 experts give me an opinion on this? Are they asking too much?

Personally, I struggle to see the value at that price. It's worth remembering that the car is 15 yrs old now, and has done 72k; almost exactly the point that these cars start throwing big issues (I have considerable experience in this regard). I'm sure most ex/current owners will agree with me that unless they've been attended to already, you'll probably be chasing suspension/drivetrain niggles around the car until it's all fresh again. No other car I've owned has been so susceptible to tired bushes.
Then there's the engine/cooling/electrical issues to consider...
If you want my advice, I'd run as fast as you can and go and buy a C63 instead; auto be damned.
And therein lies the quandary: these cars are starting to fetch strong money because we've never seen the like again. But when it all boils down to it, the M5 is a starship cruiser; a family holdall time-bender in which to transport multiple people huge distances at great speed. A sports car it is not, and I therefore don't see the logic in tucking these things away to be enjoyed only on sunny Sundays. Sure, they're fabulous to drive... for an executive car, but at this cash, you can get so much more value for your money, IMO.

And reading the thread is one of the reasons the M5 is off my list.tenfour said:

Thanks for such a detailed reply, my head of course agrees I just want the chance to own a big V8 icon while I still can! Personally, I struggle to see the value at that price.
