What's the furthest you've ever ridden totally solo? Before yesterday that was 86miles but yesterday I did 104.1 miles with JUST over 7000ft of climb.

To be honest.... Quite enjoyed it! Made sure I took plenty of fluids with me (that tacx saddle mount was a godsend!), plenty of food and gels and even after 100 miles I felt strong, could easily have gone quite a bit further I think. In total I was stopped (including junctions, traffic lights, 1 nature break!) for a little under 5mins and got a 17 average so pretty pleased with that.

Just wondering how far you others have gone alone? It was a bit lonely but the weather was nice.... I enjoyed it! That was following a tough 2+ hours at much higher intensity the day before.

Would have been great to have had you out with us on the Dynamo Ross. I did my longest ever at 145 miles, but that's small beer compared to some of the other efforts. One ph'er was looking at about 300 miles when travelling to the start and getting home again was taken into account, lots of PBs in terms of longest ride were set I think.

Totally solo, my longest was to Le Mans last year at 200km.

About 100 miles too. It gets a bit boring after 3 hours for me though.I think that 100 was over 20mph avg so I guess not that 'long' in hours terms. Certainly have done some winter slogs that felt far longer!

My longest solo ride was 330km with 8,000m of climbing, as part of my High Rouleurs ride. Generally my rides are quite short though, no need to go any further than 80km.

134 is the longest ride so far and that was roughly 60:40 on-road to off-road which kept it interesting.

The ride I'm planning for next week will break that as it's 175 miles and about 80:20 off-road to on-road. Hopefully the weather will stay dry for the ride but still nice and warm smile

I've done a couple of hundreds, but the little club I'm in is full of nutters. Out of the fifteen or so regulars we have an Iron Man, an Iron Lady, a bloke who came a close second in the WEMBO 24 Single Speed, and a bloke who nipped out for a ride after work one day and did just over 400 miles. And me...

My longest solo ride was 130.7 miles over 11.5 hours, but perversely I never really got that far away from home...

...ridden on the 28th of December last year to finish off that silly Rapha 500km challenge.

Winter time, dark, out after midnight in the end, and slow. Soooo slow. And oodles of "filler" miles ridden in laps close to home just to get a daft embroidered patch that I can't even find anymore. rolleyes

Very silly stuff!

Good effort Wacky Racer!

My only concern with going much further than what I did yesterday would be having to carry extra stuff. I had another 400ml of fluid left (but one of my bottles was only 600ml so I could get another 950ml bottle and thus have an extra 750ml left.... Enough for another 30 miles or so u guess. I couldn't carry much more in the way of food and when I got back I had 1 Energy bar and 1 gel left.

I did risk it.... And didn't actually take any spare puncture kit! If I got a puncture I had a friend who said he'd have picked me up.....

I Do have a camelbak rogue, which I threw the bladder out, which I could use to store an extra 2 drinks bottles plus puncture kit if needed but I really don't like wearing it of I can avoid it. It's not uncomfortable, but you know it's there. The other option would of course be to stop off at a petrol station or something and buy some extra fluids and maybe a sandwich or something..... But I don't want to leave £3k worth of bike outside.... What do you think about actually taking the bike inside whilst I buy something?

When I was 13, about 80 miles from Birmingham to north of Manchester, over the Peak District, dressed in jeans and t shirt, on my trusty steel 10-speed. Took a flask of water and some biscuits.

Couldn't you lock it up? You can get a wearable lock like a hiplok which goes round your waist so you don't need a backpack, you can't feel it's there when wearing it.

OP, you're overthinking this smile

Take what you can comfortably carry, then if you need more food while you're out, stop and buy some. Assuming you're not doing your 100 mile ride around some sinkhole council estate, why would you need to worry about leaving your bike outside a petrol station for 60 seconds ??

230km over a day riding Stage 1 of the "Yorkshire TdF" from Leeds to Harrogate and then dribbling back to my car in Leeds afterwards

I had 2 bottle mounts on the bike and carried a few snacks in jersey pockets, a tri bag and stuffed inside the legs of my shorts - no, really

I also stopped at a cafe for brekkie - and refilled my bottles - and had lunch from the post office at Grinton - and refilled my bottles
Each stop involved my bike staying at my side whilst I bought and ate my full English and Cornish pasty respectively

I NEVER let my bike leave my sight which seldom inconveniences me
Cycling cafes know their market
It can be challenging in winter but in summer you can sit outside and look after your bike personally

Cheers

You realise it doesn't count if you've recorded it in KMs right?

I've done 111 miles twice, Manchester to pretty much wales and back and a lap round Lake Geneva. Took 4 sausage sandwiches with me on the Manchester ride, that ride was supposed to be with a few friends but they all cried off as it was pouring down in Manchester. I got sunburned as it was glorious outside of Manchester! When I got back it was still pissing down.

Lake Geneva is a great great ride out, a perfect break from all the mountains round about.

I looked at this on my Strava records a few weeks ago, my next longest was about 90 miles that I did on an 8 hour MTB race thing, which is probably equivalent to 130-140 on my road bike, based on a 10mph average vs 17mph on that bike. So that's probably my best day on a bike, though the 10 mile loops got a bit boring towards the end!

Interestingly, there's a big gap as most of my rides are in the 40-50 mile range, a few 60s when I was riding to and from a 40 mile club ride, but mostly short stuff. I think because I've never really been able to go out all day at the weekends and when I could I'd go mountain biking.

Not ridden in ages, need to get back on I think!

Rule #24...

Most of my longer rides have been with others, most of which should be touching just shy of 100km (60m). Have a run to Brighton planned in shortly which should be a solo effort of 80km (50m) and also working towards a 280km (185m) effort early September.

106.6 miles, the Dartmoor Classic a couple of years ago. T'was lumpy too.

Currently considering which direction I want to take with my cycling, longer solo events or TTing...
