Aston Martin at its most masculine phase IMO. Styling had a cues of American muscle (front end), some contemporary Italian (rear end) with gentleman's club interior. Love it. A colleague had a standard V8 and bought the bits off the factory to upgrade it to Vantage spec himself.

I havn't been interested in any Aston since these!

If I wanted something like the current Astons I'd buy an F Type V8 and do something with the change

70s/ 80s supercars are the best!!

My two favourite cars of all time...

The Vantage must be the original iron fist in a silk glove; a bare knuckle fighter in a Saville Row suit..

Best friends Dad had a Vantage Volante X Pack in Norfolk Red. Amazing looking car regardless of the fact I love red cars.

I went out in it once. Amazing, the car rocked side to side as it idled and the carbs and engine got up to temp.

The heady smell of petrol fumes filling the air. Out on the road with the hood down on a fine sunny day. Stretching it's legs, the sound was V8 heaven, pace substantial, pomp and majesty all in one.

Etched into the memory that one.

Back in pre 07 prices were rock bottom,I nearly bought one before I got my old 911.
Both cars have gone mental value wise since then.

It was this car that got me interested in all things Aston, it became my dream car in my early years. I vowed one day that I will own an Aston (aiming for current style Vantage though) Still saving for it, it will happen one day if I can just stop wasting money on frivolous stuff like food, electricity, council tax etc!!

James May on the V8 Vantage at 24:42.

Although watch the rest of it, as it has the DB7 as well. God Top gear was good back then....

There's an old boy who has one who goes to the Gold Cup at Oulton Park every year. Owned from new. He's about 30 stone, always wears mustard cords and always has a picnic basket with a pork pie the size of a dinner plate in it smile always reminds me of him when i see one.

As I suspected, it looks better on the original size wheels.

I still wouldn't kick it out of bed though.

Tell me about it. Seriously considered a DBS (early 70s, not the modern one with the naff power/soul/whatever bullst that lights up when you put the key in) or Espada about ten years ago (maybe slightly more) when both were sub-20k cars ...

Wonderful.

Wasn't there a Clarkson video from a few years back where he had a row of interesting cars lined up for a drag race? Each car was revved in turn. All very nice, but then the Aston took its turn and showed what an engine should sound like.

Me too. The DBS was in good condition and was about £35K. What was wrong with me?

I find it very refreshing that Aston Martin has once again got a CEO at the helm who is a genuine petrolhead, not just a glorified accountant. He's also very approachable and down to earth; was a big supporter of the recent Charity Aston Martin event at Burghley etc

There was, but it was the later Vantage (see my earlier post), video was called Clarkson Unleashed On Cars. I had that on VHS and probably watched it daily, and could recite you most of it from memory even now, especially that scene.

Now this Aston Martin Vantage weighs about twice as much as a Golf GTi, so you'd probably expect it to have twice as much power... <Clarkson pause>

No... <Clarkson pause again>

It has.. 4 times as much.

Weighs as much as a planet, goes like the starship enterprise.
