Fell in love with these after reading through the old man's collection of classic car magazine. Still remember a heavily reworked red v8 Vantage as a cover car for I guess what would of been a late 80s or early 90s edition of the magazine.

1 Lottery win and I'd have one of these at the drop of a hat.
I'd probably get the twin-supercharged Vantage too and maybe a V8 Vantage Zagato and a Volante to cater for weather a mood.

I dreamt of having one of these when I was a schoolboy. I'm still dreaming. Just stunning.

Glorious things cloud9

Probably the most modern car that would make my Lottery win collection other than maybe a 964 Turbo.

I can still remember back in the mid-80's having a ride in an ordinary, mid 70's vintage V8 auto, and that was special enough back then.

Likewise. And in that colour too. I've no doubt it doesn't drive as good as it looks, but I'd still be sorely tempted...

There was, but it was the later Vantage (see my earlier post), video was called Clarkson Unleashed On Cars. I had that on VHS and probably watched it daily, and could recite you most of it from memory even now, especially that scene.

Now this Aston Martin Vantage weighs about twice as much as a Golf GTi, so you'd probably expect it to have twice as much power... <Clarkson pause>

No... <Clarkson pause again>

It has.. 4 times as much.

Weighs as much as a planet, goes like the starship enterprise.

It would when the driver has to open
the door to reverse the car back.

They were seriously quick in period, my old man had a box fresh and distinctly frisky V12 XJ-S (in comparison to the two he had afterwards) and we were coming back from Silverstone down the A43 - having just witnessed Win and Big Tom in their Group A TWR Jags put the Sytner 6 Series' to the sword - he decided to have a little dice with the Aston in front. As we pulled level, we spotted that blanked out grill and someone who was a dead ringer for Victor Gauntlett at the wheel. At that point we knew there would be trouble at mill. Utter humiliation ensued.

Really wanted one ever since, can't think why...

Perhaps it's my age, but when anyone mentions V8 Vantage it's this one that immediately springs to mind and not the more modern model.

Not hard to see why these weigh so much

Part of the soundproofing consists of foam backed lead under the carpets.

Seriously quick cars that you need to rev to get the best out of if

Based on the published figures, the two surprises were the Esprit (slightly quicker) and the Caterham (nowhere).

If I remember the story fully for the Clarkson DVD, the Caterham was a customer car, driven by the customer and he had just had a gearbox rebuild, hence was not quite where it should have been. I believe the TVR had a far from standard engine in it...
