Am I reading this wrong, but I thought the article says that McLaren are considering resurrecting the F1s three-seat layout, not the actual McLaren F1. I thought they'd already said that if they were to build a new "hypercar" it would need to be significantly different to the P1.

I'm seeing real similarities with those still-born Lotus concepts of a couple of years ago.

Still, as everyone has already said - Autocar.

Look forward to seeing the youtube video of one wrapped in gold being driven at ridiculous speeds in summer 2019 by some arab kid down the kings road.

Followed by the picture of it being hoisted onto a truck because he had no road tax.

Have you read the article or just looked at the seat layout? GT with 650s performance is hardly Huayra is it.

Seems like a somewhat confused idea to me but as it's from Autocar I expect its complete fabrication anyway.

"Broken Record" Indeed. perhaps you may like to ask them to make you one with manual etc?

FFS,, what is SO wrong with the V8 + paddle change? Have you driven one?

Rant over...

There seems to be an awful lot of specific detail and direct quotes in the story for it to have been made up...

Mclaren should only do an F1 if
3 seat layout-??
Roof scoop-??
Super lightweight
BMW-sourced engine
Gold lined engine bay
Titanium toolkit
LT version to be available to commemorate Le Mans entry

F1 was never an luxurious/opulent car. It was a technological masterpiece. Let's not lose focus Mclaren.
no power steering
no brake booster
no abs
no tc
no airbags
nothing...
just 3 pedals, 6speed manual box and steering wheel
F1 can't be beaten

Wouldn't the name of it just be the McLaren 700F?

I hope they do build it. You can never have too many great cars in the world.

They did mention that they would do a pure electric car... this might be it. And it would fit into the F1 mould of game changing car.

Making an F1 with three seats with their V8 would be like making a Panamera!

Isn't the 650S faster than the Huayra, so I think it's quite an apt description!

McLaren at the top of the supercar game once again.

Following on from the fantastic 650S, 675LT and 570S this look another winner.

Forget your Ferrari's and Lamborghini's they are old hat and McLaren is where it is right now

A story about a hypercar that doesnt end 'sold out already' ??
Because from auto car

The ultimate click bait car mag, 99% of their stories like this never happen
Hopefully, it doesn't strike me as a particularly good idea to make this car...

What do you do then if you get talking to someone you know to be close to the project and who tells all, but doesn't want to be named? It's not ideal but if that's what you've got you go with it.

(Ignoring any McLaren aspect)
I don't understand why more manufacturers don't go for a staggered 3 abreast layout with a central driver.
Chuck in some sort of dipped-beam adjustment (from left to right - don't Porsche do something like this?) and you have a car which can be easily sold in any market.
The greatest change necessary would be changing the toe-in to compensate for road camber.
It need not be confined to sports cars. Six-seater family car with optimum weight distribution (passenger wise) and plenty of space, plus no need for any adjustment for driving anywhere in the world...
Yes please.
This x1000. Even if I could afford a P1, I'd hate a left hooker.

I've never understood why a central driving position for super/hypercars isn't more popular? It's very cool, carries two passengers instead of one, and can be sold worldwide.

Manufacturers: Do it!
