Saw one at the Yorkshire Show, looked a bit odd but was certainly getting lots of attention.

Of course, there have been better convertible Range Rovers before:

I saw it was on the TV tonight as well.

I saw a black RR convertable last night on the M62 near castleford, very like the one in the bond film.

There was a white one in pride of place at the LR dealer in York today. It looked lovely, to be honest. But then, everything else in the showroom looked lovely as well.

For something based on Fords EUCD platform 1967kg is extraordinary!

JLR products always seem to be 150-200kg heavier than their competitors, a 3.0L V6 diesel Macan is 1880kg.

Maybe so, the VAG platform is quite new. I'm sure that JLR will be competitive when the present model is replaced. Hopefully profits from increased sales from niche models like this will help them bring it to market sooner.

The Jaguar 3.0 F-Pace is 1884kg... so JLR products are not always heavier than their competitors. The F-Pace is the Macan equivalent / engine and spec wise.

The F Pace is aluminium bodied compared to the steel Macan so I would expect it to be 150k-200kg lighter than the Porsche but it isn't.

Fair enough... but - never the less... a JLR product is of a similar weight; no matter how they've achieved it. That was my only point.

Looks like a mk3 Golf Cab on stilts. biggrin

PS The standard Evoque - it's surprisingly nice inside. Not very manly, though, much like the rest of the range. Feels a bit too "luxury" but I guess that is the market they're aiming for. The height seems like a good idea for old people to get into. Although, oddly, because everything seems to be designed as a car, it feels like you're sitting in a car, quite low down with the dashboard and centre console being quite high.

Looks like an a3 cabrio on steroids.

I think that is the sticking point.. Some, like your good self, think it looks stylish. Others (like me) think it looks ridiculous. I rarely doubt the ability of Land Rover products other than the Mk1 Range Rover Sport appeared over heavy and from friends experiences, reliability is still a question mark..

I'm a bit biased, but think it looks ok. Just surprised they didn't do some sort of folding metal/glass type roof.

It would have lost the novelty and the appeal, plus the costs and complications of developing hard top.
Could you imagine the amount of weight a hard top would have added to the car?
Hardtops mostly work on sports roadsters.

I'll hand in my PH card on the way out, but I think I could quite fancy one.

I know what you're saying. My misses has gone off her boxster in recent times and has taken to using "my" Evoque all the time now. So much so I've bought myself an older Rav4 for day to day stuff. So I've begun to wonder if she should not be trying one of these.

It isnt targetted at the PH demographic, it is like saying you wont by Ugg boots !

They will sell by the boatload, especially once a few appear on the road and folk that dont lurk on forums and read car magazines spot them and hot foot it to a LandRover dealership, if you ordered one and got early delivery I reckon you coudl run it for a year and still sell it for what you paid for it, make no mistake this thing will be a sales sensation, the Evoque is a big seller as it is.

I dont know why other peoples choices are sneered at so much, they just ho, that looks funky, I want one and probably dont agonise over tenths of seconds to sixty, its plenty fast enough for its use, it isnt a sportscar, it is expensive because it is a convertible version of a premium car, most wont buy them outright anyway, probably £600 a month, and why not ? if it makes them feel good and they enjoy it ? should they buy a TVR, MX5, "barge" or some other PH type car, no, they would more than likely hate it and it wouldnt work for them.

We are the oddballs, not them !

The Evoque is no soft roader; it's very capable off road... and a drop top version for summer European Alpine drives, off the beaten track; it'd surely be a good thing. Soft top off-roaders have been around for years and years; think Suzuki and U.S born vehicles. Is this different purely due to the luxury brand / interior?

Surely a Porsche stuck in traffic is just as wasted as an offroader on city streets? That's why I don't get the hatred. For me though; I genuinely venture off the beaten track and can see the appeal. That said; I won't be buying one. JLR will sell st loads.
I bet the UN have just put a massive order in for them

In context... 'It's no soft roader'. It's very capable compared to comparable cars / cars of a similar ilk. Of course, it's no Defender. That goes without saying.
