The Evoque is no soft roader; it's very capable off road... and a drop top version for summer European Alpine drives, off the beaten track; it'd surely be a good thing. Soft top off-roaders have been around for years and years; think Suzuki and U.S born vehicles. Is this different purely due to the luxury brand / interior?

Surely a Porsche stuck in traffic is just as wasted as an offroader on city streets? That's why I don't get the hatred. For me though; I genuinely venture off the beaten track and can see the appeal. That said; I won't be buying one. JLR will sell st loads.
I bet the UN have just put a massive order in for them
In context... 'It's no soft roader'. It's very capable compared to comparable cars / cars of a similar ilk. Of course, it's no Defender. That goes without saying.
It might be able to negotiate Land Rovers off road course with aplomb, but let us not forget, it's just a car and will have the same durability as a car. Will they be selling many in the Australian outback? Will we see many on the news in a few years time with a load of AK47 brandishing mentalists and a rocket launcher bolted on the back? Doubt it. Besides, most here with have stupid tyres on with will negate any built in off road capability.

I never said Rambo would go and buy one... not sure what you're on about! My point was that it's in another league to other soft roaders and more than most people will ever need; capability wise. My other half has an Evoque and I was impressed with it, in the Alps, on standard M+S tyres. Passing stranded CRVS, RAV4s, Merc 4matics and BMW Xdrives galore. I kid not. My point needs to be seen in context. They are decent off road or in nasty conditions. All LR's are; even the ones that aren't 'proper'.

I've seen two of these now. Hideous!
The first was being driven by an orange milf. The other by a fat, bald bloke

I can't see the issue people have with these. Just to clarify, I wouldn't dream of owning one as they are simply not my thing, but I don't expect JLR will be losing any sleep over that .

If you don't like them, don't buy one. It's really simple.

If orange people want to fund one using all sorts of PCP and lease deals, then great let them do it.

They may not be very good off road? No st, but if that was important to you you probably wouldn't be looking at one anyway surely.

They look like a skip? Well, maybe some angles are unflattering, but to my eyes at least the regular Evoque is hardly a looker, so cutting the top off it was hardly going to turn it into a thing of beauty. I actually think the grey one that someone has posted pics of looks half decent, if you can get passed the absurdity of a convertible 4x4.

I applaud JLR for bringing this to market, and they will no doubt sell like hot cakes. I' assuming they are made in the UK? If so, great. Hopefully securing more jobs or added job security for the working man.

Ok. I wasn't aware TATA had sold the company. Apologies.
That's alright. I wasn't aware TATA had packed up the entire manufacturing and engineering functions and moved them out of the UK. Apologies.

It's as if those creatures from Love Island got together and designed a car.

Thanks Ford.

Yesterday, an orange one driven by a orange person with the roof down and it looked quite ridiculous, as did the guy at the wheel.
Wasn't around the Newark area was it by chance. My wife and I saw one with a very tanned man in it. He was nearly as orange as the car. Looked bloody stupid.

This is a wagon with a band on it. Make sure you spec your Evoque with a towbar.

There was one parked outside our local Sainsbury's last week.

I don't like it and it was driven by the sort of person people above are suggesting will be typical owners.

However, I don't find it offensive and don't particularly care who drives it.

Actually, pretty pointless post all in all.

I think it's cool looking as an accessory. I'd let the Mrs have one for sure.

I'm shocked to say I have just seen a man driving an orange one of these, roof down.

I can only assume he was delivering it for the dealer or perhaps returning it from the garage.

Mind you he wasn't driving it very quickly, so perhaps he was a bit light on his feet and it really was his.

Style (of some sort) over form and function sadly.

I quite like it, not for me but I am sure my girlfriend wouldn't mind one, but I guess it won't taken over her preference for a Wrangler.

Not sure why people hate them, if you do not like it then fine, but I can't see any real difference between the 'functions' of an off-road convertible and the people who drive track cars on the road, or the old argument of driving a supercar when you can go over 70.

Live and let live smile

Eccleshall Road in Sheffield, a training ground for TOWIE types. It fitted in quite well.

Why? A British company has designed a product that will secure thousands of jobs and you intimate that is a bad thing??
It is a bad thing. If this is the best the JLR engineering design team can come up with then it's a bloody sad day for British engineering. JLR have been continuously heading down this track for some five years now. It's no longer about designing and building best in class vehicles, it's about producing marketing bullst that results in hair dresser type cars...over blinged, over priced and over here. I'm waiting for age and the second hand market to catch up with JLR and for their over complex components to start keeling over, and it will happen. When I think of JLR I think of the ridiculous Castrol oil cartridge project that was promoted last year as the new thing in automotive oil...it's rubbish unecessary hyped up marketing...who on earth needs an encrypted oil cartridge for oil changes?
