2.2 vti prelude, sounded like engine was going to explode when you used all the power.

I have had many cars, including an EP3 Type R but the car that literally wrung itself to the redline was a little flat four Alfasud 1200Ti I had - span like a sewing machine.

I hear the rotaries are good but have never tried one.

Pretty much any non turbo Toyota engine with a 'G' head.

My Clio 197. It just loves hitting the limiter and the gearing is spot on too. Uprated conrod bolts make it safe to up the redline from 7500 to 7750 rpm

In comparison to many diesels the D4 2.0 diesel in my Volvo revs well and still delivers power higher up (relatively speaking obviously). Having driven a couple of other diesels this week it's a noticeable difference.

I'd be surprised if a lot of the sports cars pictured above didn't have rev-happy engines.

But my Avensis estate did surprise me, as the 1zz-fe engine was always eager and quick to rev.

Compared to my wife's S3 hyundai coupe 2.0 - supposed sports coupe, which was very course, and unwilling to change revs with any real speed.

My Alfa 156 ts - pretty dead under 3k. Whilst they do rev up high, much of the noise is just tuning of the resonator in the air intake.

I rate the ford zetec range as well though.

Nice! Looks like a 3SGE? What car is it in?

When he performs heel and toe the response on the rev needle is instant, and seems also to rev close to 10000rpm.

The car that got me into high rev'ing engines was this:

I have since changed over to this and have never had so much fun in chasing a red line smile

Of the cars I have owned a few stand out!

Fiat 125 and 132ES with the twin-cam Lampredi engine - you just had to rev the nuts off them to enjoy them properly!

Capri 2.8 Injections liked to rush towards the limiter (or maybe it was just how I drove them)!?

MkII GTi 16V Golf also revved for fun!

But the smoothest two I've had are my current 325ti Compact and Z4 Coupe - get past 4,000 rpm and I just can't bring myself to lift until I get up by the red-line! Shame there are no more N/A straight sixes from BMW.frown

Maybe I should try something Honda and V-tec one day!laugh

E30 325i would get my vote.
On a related, and admittedly biased, note I was thinking that an E46 325i strikes a similar comparison. Even in a high gear at low revs, it picks up pretty well and sounds good. Get it singing above 4k, though, and that straight 6 howl, noticeable increase in punch, and eerie smoothness makes you think it could go another 2k past the red line.

We had a Mk 1 MX-5 for about four years, and I loved it to bits but I'd not say that it was "rev-hungry" as such; I think it was more a perception borne of its low weight.

Was going to mention the 125, my dad's has been rebuilt by Guy Croft and really does sound like it'd rev forever!

A pic of the rev happy lump

Back in 1972 I owned one of these rev-happy little beasts. I did fit a rev counter in it to keep it below 7,500 rpm but apparently that was too high rolleyes
After I traded it in I heard from the garage that the engine gave up after one day with its new owner. Good while it lasted, though smile

Wow, that is fantastic!

The one I had was my dad's before I got my hands on it, sadly after he had a stroke and couldn't drive any more - but at least I could take him out in it, although I think he was torn between enjoying and regretting the situation if that makes sense?

But your dad actually has one - I'd love to see that! It must be about the last one running in the UK - I haven't seen one anywhere for years. Do you ever go to Sunday Services or other events?

Maybe PM me if you would prefer - I'd just love to see one again. Thanks! thumbup
