Mk 2 Golf GTI 16v. With drilled induction box.... Wibble

Mk1 RX7 with a mild port and stupidly loud exhaust wich got quieter the faster it spun, thank god for the warning bong.

92 JDM B16a with the Apexi VAFC 9k rpm although true redline occasionally hit 8750rpm. Will see if I can find a vid but amazing little engine.

Pretty much any non turbo Toyota engine with a 'G' head.
4AGE (1.6l) is probably the sweetest revving Toyota engine.

I have the JDM "blacktop" version in my MR2 - 5 valves/cyl, VVT, quad throttle bodies, 4-2-1 exhaust. Toyota's response to the VTEC Hondas.

It makes peak power at 7,800 rpm, and is still pulling strongly when the fuel cut spoils the party at 8,300.frown

Apparently the bottom end is good for 9,000+ rpm - I'll find out in a year or two.

Toyota Corolla T Sport. Comes on cam about 6200rpm and pulls hard to over 8,200

My Impreza P1 is another the way it's mapped it just builds and builds power to the redline at approx 8200rpm

Years ago I had a Suzuki Swift (old rat looking thing) which revved quite high. Was a blast driving it on country lanes and dropping a gear. Motorway to Bournemouth not so much fun.

RX8. Despite the chocolate engine it was one of the most balanced, fun cars I've ever owned and you'd frequently redline it just because it seemed to like it (and had a beep to say you'd done it!)

RX8 and e46 M3. Both revvy and with all the grunt at the top end too as your reward. Preferred the M3 of the two; RX7 is too gutless low down the range.

TVR Tuscan 4.0 tops out at 7000rpm, but it pulls savagely the whole way.

I had a 1990 Legacy with the 150bhp 2.0 NA 4-cam motor - it didn't really wake up until about 4000rpm, and loved to scream its way to the rev-limit just shy of 8000.

Not really what you expect from a car that wasn't even the performance version of that model!

My lovely old Fiat 128 coupe.

I loved that car. Had a manual choke and a hand throttle so you could warm it up nicely. Had to be put to sleep in the end due to being a 1970s Fiat.

Reved like a bees wings.

honda concerto 1.6 16v, that got going above 5k rpm same as the mazda mx6 v6 and 323 v6. all of those would happily bounce off the rev limiter when i forgot to change gear because they were revving so keenly. Wife had a rev happy daihatsu charade 1.3 16v, that thing was great fun, used to shock a few hot/warm hatches back in the day when i got to drive it. that used to get going after 5k rpm.

my old mr2 turbo used to pull hard until the rev limiter spoiled the fun.

I love rev happy cars, my favourites I've owned:

K20 Civic Type R
B20/B18/B16 Civic Coupe
4AGE MK1 MR2
M52 328i Sport with M50 manifold
1.7 Ford Puma

The 4AGE had the most character, proper old school throttle response and still revved to 7800rpm, was still pulling strong at 140k miles

Seconded, the engine was my favourite thing about mine. The beauty of course is you can use the enjoy rev range every time you drive it due to the sensible power.

The RX-8, it's the best throttle response I've had so far (including a 911), as the rev range is vast you can hold the gear longer, and literally drive it from the throttle for bendy b-roads, once you get the RX-8 driving style.

Since selling mine , everything else before and after is a bit meh.

Alfa 1750 twin cam in my Alfetta. Simply the reviest engine on the planet, from memory the redline was at about 6K but it would go much much further than that, at least 7.5K with no apparent ill effects. Finally scrapped it due to tin worm after about 85K miles of utter abuse and the engine was as sweet as a nut. Loved that car.

Surely the highest and happiest revving engine is the one in the LFA.

Maybe, but only about 4 people will know from experience
